Is my clutch on the way out ??

My manual, 08 plate D3 has done 145k miles. In the last few months my XY calibration has gone 3 times out, the last time was a couple of days ago. Yesterday I noticed what seemed to be the clutch slipping, so I did a few tests. I can make the clutch slip a bit if I put my foot down in 5th and 6th around 1700 rpm and then it goes back to normal above that. It doesn't seem to slip under any other conditions yet.

If it is on the way out, how much is it likely to cost me please? Thanks.

Sounds like it might be on its way out. £1100 seems about right.

It does sound like it is on the way out had the same symptoms as you, try procedure below to reset
xy sensor first, you should have gear change display on dash mine was intermittent even after
Reset, clutch lasted 2 to 3 months after and then finally give up.

As to the cost I paid £1240+Vat sept 2015 that’s with new DMF as well. This will vary in price from different repairers.

On a quiet stretch of road, engage low box.
Reverse until R shows in the dash then stop
Then drive through each gear in turn 1,2,3,4,5,6, holding it in each gear until the gear number displays.
Then Stop. Turn engine off wait a few minutes then restart

Good Luck
 Andy

I've had the same issues recently. It happens when I tow a trailer, and try to accelerate hard. It throws the xy sensor out.

My car had two new clutches before I bought it at 90k miles. The last one at 85k miles cost the previous owner £1600, with a new flywheel.

I still dont understand how the slip between flywheel and driven plate is sensed?

Engine speed is known, gear selected is known, output shaft speed is known, road speed is known

When the clutch slips, the mismatch between all the inputs causes the car to have a wobbly Thumbs Up

Thanks Mikey. I guess there is some allowance for slip when pulling away, and changing gear?

Thanks for the replies folks. I've done XY re-calibration before, so will do it again soon and will monitor the slipping for now.
