Air Spring Gaiter/Cover

Had a good look around on here but can't find a DIY on how to replace an air spring gaiter. I know a lot of peeps don't bother but...

Can anyone point me at an idiots guide?

If I just wanted to remove the mess that's there, how would I go about cutting it loose? (idiots guide again)

When I did mine I jacked the car up put an axle stand under the chassis and removed the wheel, I then put the car into access mode to take some pressure off the airbag, I had not got an iid tool at that time, if I were to do it now I would probably depressurise the suspension using my iid tool. I then loosened but did not remove the 3 nuts holding the top of the suspension unit to give me a bit of movement. I then removed the large single bolt out of the bottom of the shock absorber and levered the bottom mount out oh its location. With lots of silicone spray, much care and just a little swearing I was able to slide the gaiter up the shock absorber and persuade the narrow end over the bottom shock absorber bush without tearing the gaiter. Then assembly was the reverse of dismantling.

Sorry no pictures but I hope this helps Thumbs Up

Sounds do-able if a little painful. Would it have been significantly easier if you had deflated the bags (I can do this) or still a bit of a b Censored gger?

Sorry for the delay in responding, I only just noticed your post, it might have been a bit easier getting the bottom shock absorber bolt in and out with the airbags deflated but the fiddliest part was getting the narrow part of the gaiter over the bottom shock absorber mount. Go for it Thumbs Up
