Fuel gauge faulty?

08 disco 3 102000 miles on the clock. A couple of times now the fuel gauge has sort of died & the yellow low fuel warning light comes on tank is 3/4 full or so. After a few moments back to normal. Any clues anyone? Mutch appreciated thanks.

I know the dashboard gauge on the D3 is different to the D4, but assuming what's inside the tank is the same then it could be float in the tank that needs replacing. I had to have mine changed last year and the tank needs to be removed, my local independent charged about £200.

As I said, not sure it works exactly the same way as the D4, but on mine, I couldn't get it in to be fixed for a few weeks and after driving around for a few weeks with no gauge the car decides it has run out of fuel and stops, even on the garage forcourt with a full tank of diesel. It can be restarted, but it will not run for long.
