Detachable tow ball stolen - Telford Shropshire

Hi,

Some of you will say it's my own fault, but my detachable tow ball has been stollen from my D3, yes I had left it on. Sad Not sure when it happened as it's not something I look at every day, but my suspicions are it was done when I was parked at the NEC for the camping and caravanning show (oh the irony!).

How did I find out it was gone? Well at the weekend I drove all the way from Telford to Somerset to pick up my new caravan only to find that a vital part of the hitching up process was missing! The caravan dealership (Highbridge Caravans) had a Disco4 for sale with a detachable and they let me borrow theirs.

Amazingly there are loads of 'reconditioned' ones on ebay I see. I wonder how many are legit? Mine is one of those now I bet. So just to give anybody in Telford the heads up, there are thieves about! In fact - use this as a reminder for everyone - take your detachable tow ball off and store it somewhere safe!

Unfortunately detachable tow bars and spare wheels are commonly stolen.

Your also not the first person who has mentioned a tow bar being stolen at a caravan show Neutral

Must be a good days earnings for the Censored to go along the lines removing the bars.

I reported the theft to the Police and they sent a Community Support Officer round.

Not much they can do - but they did recommend getting a SmartWater kit and painting it on the knickable bits.

They also said that the Catalytic Converters are being targeted too.

You can make a plate to secure the ball into position, then smear the thing in grease Thumbs Up

See the tech drawing here, http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic149595....wbar+plate

Is the guy who used to make the tow bar protection plate still a member and selling the plates?

Or does anyone have one to sell?

I sent a PM to W1LD R but it appears to be stuck in the Outbox - so I suspect that isn't the right person?

Think you need to try RLD who also makes spare wheel protectors.
