discovery 3 hdc fault, low suspension etc |
|
hello fellow land rover fans, got trouble with my car (06 discovery 3 27se manual) i hope someone can help me with, when i start the car it go's through the normal check sequence and all is fine bar the airbag warning light, then things start to get really weird, if i move the steering at all (left or right) even the most tiny movement, the hdc malfunction comes on, the eas go's down(inoperative ) special programmes unavailable, abs light etc also the sat nav screen just displays the land rover logo all the time and the radio station display and functions all work but no audible sound.
the faults are obviously being triggered right away as soon as the steering is moved at all which would maybe indicate yaw angle sensor or steering sensor ? when i shut the car off take the key out and start up again everything is fine until i touch the steering again,
i dont want to go down the route of throwing parts and money at it without some indication or direction to go, ideally i need to get the car plugged in but i live in county antrim and even half reliable land rover techie's are a rare breed here, i was hoping someone may have had similar issues and could offer a little advise, thank you in advance.

I havent a clue but add clock spring to your list.
Have you tried rocking the car before turning the wheel as Im thinking it may be as you turn the wheel the susp will move a knatts cock and it could be a sensor issue? daft I know but its free to check.

I had a similar issue, but without the stereo system issues and it needed the steering angle sensor re-calibrating. Whilst investigating it I found the trigger sleeve was loose on the steering shaft so glued it back before the re-calibration - worth checking as well.

+1 for steering angle sensor sleeve moving on the shaft. Exactly the same symptoms. I "re-glued" mine with sticks like s&@t adhesive as it's fairly thick and won't slump too much. Recalibrate angle sensor and no more problem. Jarrod
Current : D3 2007 HSE - AKA the lemon
-beanie grille
-detango with led bulbs
-club body off rebuild. TWICE.

I used Stixall to glue mine - it is great stuff. When I came to re-calibrate the sensor, I had access to a Foxwell NT510 that lists it as a supported function, but it failed every attempt. I already had an iCarsoft unit but that does not support the feature on the D3. For a fast fix I bought an IID as i can sell it on for relatively little loss, plus I turned on a few extras whist I was at it. I just wish I'd bought one when I first got my D3 as it is so much better than the others and works first time.

thanks lads for your replies, not had a chance to look at the car since i posted my problem but gonna get a look at it tomorrow, i'm assuming the angle sensor recalibration needs to be done via computer/diagnostic tool ?
also, is the sensor fairly accessible ?
i do have a maxi-diag hand held scanner but not worth a toss on my disco,
thanks again for your help.
