D3 vs Range Rover?

Evening all

How does the D3 compare to a Range Rover (2003 - 2005)for reliability and cost of fixing? Or is it they are both Green Oval so as bad as each other? The trouble I find with both forums is that you only hear about the bad which is enough to put anyone off Land Rovers so it's hard to tell if all cars are money pits or just a few.
I've got an 02 plate Range Rover and am contemplating a D3 but am wondering whether to spend on this one or just change to a D3

Or Go for a Range Rover sport. Based on a D3. Just less load area room though

good and bad, much of a muchness with both I suspect.

If you need 7 seats or extra load space then D3 is the way forward, if you don't then its all down to personal taste and preference I suspect

I don't need 7 seats but a big boot is handy. I've found the Range Rover boot ample but it also has a very handy roof rack. I do like the sport and the Range Rover... the D3 is most likely hands down the most practical.

The Range Rover suffers from gearbox issues, fuel pump issues, odd injector and a bit of suspension wear and tear.

The D3 does suffer from more common problems, but it is a more complex and refined car Thumbs Up

Nice! Mines a 4.4 V8 and I do like the noise it makes 😁. I'm a very regular at the petrol station now which is the only downside, although it runs on lpg too.

The Range Rover 2003-2005 with the BMW engine is one of the RR we stay away from in the US. 2006-2009 with the 4.4 jag V8 are very reliable. They are really nice, but pricier. D3 4.4 jag V8 is the way to go for the price and space.

What you really need is a range rover sport supercharged 4.2

Nice early model, Purchase for less than £9K

If you have a petrol now, it won't cost any more to run

I guess it comes down to what is the best engine for reliability rather than which model Land Rover

From experience of having 2 D3's 4.4 jag V8's and talking to the various LR mechanics I trust, any model FFRR, RRS and D3 with the 4.4 jag V8's are the most reliable. The super charge 4.2 V8 seems to have issues.
