Another no sound problem

Recently had an intermittent fault with the sound from the stereo.
Vehicle (06 plate SE) is fitted with the 6cd changer unit (VUX500300)
and hi line amp (XQK500095).

The symptoms being that when I unlocked the vehicle occasionally the radio would give the impression of turning on and playing at the highest volume, when I got to the car reached in and pressed the on/off button on the radio it would revert back to the channel and volume which I was last listening to.

Recently I have now encountered that occasionally on start up, there is no volume, sometimes it returns very quickly other times can be 20 mins or more into a journey, however in the last week there seems to be no volume at all.

Radio channels change as normal and switching to CD, shows the CD playing but nothing when turning the volume up or down.

I have the factory fitted SAT NAV screen but no bluetooth or anything else.

I have taken the radio out and had a quick look at it but there doesn't seem anything untoward from my visual inspection.
I also removed the amp from below the drivers seat (no mean feat with my big sausage fingers!) took the cover off it and again from visual inspection nothing seems untoward.

Before going to the expense of just replacing items until I find the problem is there any way to test the components?

The only code the IID throws up in relation the the audio side of things is

but searching throws up very little.

Anyone any ideas where I should start?

I had a read through the following Tech Bulletin

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...ic_Aid.pdf

been out and confirmed I do indeed have the red light present on the MOST connector.

On both of our D3's it has always been water coming in through a warped cowl over the pollen filter duct. the water wets the wires in that area. Since stopping the water from getting in the radio volume issue has stopped. Also check that the battery drain pipe is not draining onto the wires behind the battery under the cowl.

Pollen filter is behind the glove box on mine which is at the opposite side of the motor.
I've got the amp out and its bone dry
