Enabling rear PDC (with this plug?)

Hi,

This picture is taken looking down to the rear LHS wheel arch from the inside. Does this brown plug wrapped in foam suggest the presence of a wiring loom for rear PDC?

I have a disco 4 bumper being painted, and this has parking sensors and loom. I'm thinking that getting a PDC module and means to connect this to the bumper loom might be a good solution. It feels better than trying to get an after market kit to fit the bumper holes anyway.

Is there an extra piece of loom that connects from another PDC module plug to a socket for the bumper loom? If I had access to a full loom could I extract just this section?I recall the Land Rover PDC unit is the same as another, cheaper one (Jaguar?) Can any one confirm? Also, is there a speaker for the PDC module?

Thanks,

Andy

PS Car is MY 2005 & LHD and I do have an IID tool which I assume would be required.

yes that is a PDC plug.

Normally 3. front/rear/power
one is black

I was going to suggest using a jaguar xj8 x308 unit if you don't have diagnostic tools like the IID to enable it. I assume a 2nd hand one needs some enabling?

You will also need a speaker.

If using the jaguar unit, you need to run an additional wire to the reversing lights.

Disadvantages of jag x308 unit.

1) Wire required to reversing lights
2) No diagnostics for when sensors go wrong
3) can't add front sensors at a later date
4) units less? expensive, but it does save on configuration/enabling costs

Thanks Pete.

A follow-up question- How would I bridge the gap between the end of the bumper loom and the PDC unit? Can I make up a loom? I was at the paint shop last weekend and I don't recall the loom attached to the bumper being long enough to reach the inner wheel arch. Plus that would feel like an odd way to install a bumper.

I think what you're saying on the PCM is that it's a faff to connect the Jaguar unit. I'll look for a better priced Land Rover one, though they are at least twice the price. Is there a post out there where someone went through the process of using a Jag control module?

Thanks,

Andy

It's not a faf. Just be aware of the limitations.

The bumper loom only needs to go as far as the rear light.

There is a plug below the left light

One with the connectors would be good.

You could hopefully remove a pin/wire (using a paperclip) to connect to the reversing lights.

I don't think there is a guide anywhere. But I temporary fitted one to mine last year before I purchased a IID for diagnostics. Discovered 2 faulty rear sensors.
