My first D3 at last! V8

After many years of admiring since they first came out, last four as a forum member, with a few near purchases, I have finally got myself a D3 - a V8 SE.

So far am absolutely loving it. The nerves driving the two hours back from the dealer were quickly soothed by the ride, heated seat, silky smooth engine, and general waft factor. Will be sorry to see my faithful D2 go but at least it will provide a slush fund for the new one.

First jobs will be oil change (engine, diffs, transfer box), gearbox flush, a new PCV valve (not sure what that is yet but I've seen it's a recommended change item). Will be asking for an IID tool for Xmas.

Any other recommended preventative jobs to do?

Cheers, AJ.

Sounds like a fab car, welcome to the world of D3 ownership.

Photos please!

You have a nice list if things to do, one more item I would add is to clean, check and adjust the Electronic Park shoes within the rear disk/drums. It is something that gets missed and is rather expensive if it goes wrong. Check out Bodsys Brake Bible on this forum.

Cheers DIY Ace. I'll be taking some pics tomorrow when it's daylight again (crikey these dark nights creep on fast!). EPB is nice and quiet (for now) but yeah I'll ask my indy to check it out when they give it the once over and do the oils.

Cheers guys. Have taken a pic now. It's almost the same colour as the sky today haha. Coolant bleed valve is ordered and on its way, cheers for the heads up on that.

Welcome to the underrepresented special interest group on this forum - club V8. Thumbs Up We mostly seem to drive and enjoy our vehicles rather than repair them. Whistle Whistle

The list you have is pretty good. You didn’t mention how many miles it has on it but it might make sense to replace the spark plugs as some point unless you know they’ve been done. I’ve been using this maintenance schedule, https://www.roverparts.com/myaccount/maint...IT1050.pdf although I haven’t bought their kit as I’m in Northern Europe. They do have nice DIY videos on YouTube.

Thanks kajtzu, that schedule is super handy!

The D3 has 177,000 miles on. That didn't put me off as from reading around it sounds like the AJV8 is good for considerably more if well looked after, and I only do about 5000 a year. Obviously there's the other less reliable bits I need to bear in mind that have also done 177k, but this is my third Landy so I'm not unprepared for what may come and the sale of my D2 should provide a slush fund.

I had my spark plugs changed at 145k last service, as well as a raft of other parts which were showing signs of being 14 years old.

Other than that its been well behaved this year, and a trip to France without a hiccup.

Actually, mine played up the other night. Slipping out of gear. Seized selector arm / bush.

£27 for parts and a bit of heat on both nuts to allow removal and the gear shift is slick again. Actually finally got around to fixing the creak in the head lining as well (swapped the blue fasteners for yellow) and silence has returned.

I had the dealer change my spark plugs for £99 (I supplied the plugs) at 105k
