Difference between 3.0TDV6 or 3.0SDV6
3.0TDV6 or 3.0SDV6 is there a difference in fuel economy or power/ reliability any engine failures.
I know when I was shopping for a Porsche ,engine failures were my biggest worry lucky enough I got a good one. You always read about the horror stories so makes it a complete mine field trying to get the right car.

The earlier TDV6 has slightly less BHP (TDV6 is 245BHP ISTR) than SDV6, SDV6 has an 8 speed vs. 6 speed Auto
I think crank failure is sadly no respecter of either

Yep I see what you mean lol. I've been looking on trader and some are advertised as SDV6 but the badge says otherwise lol.
If I was to find the right one. I'd be checking the log book for the exact model would I be better trying to get hold of the SDV6.

I'm no expert on Disco TDV6 or SDV6 but have owned RRS with both engines
As said on RRS TDV6 was six speed and SDV6 was 8 speed - easy way to tell is gearstick on 6 and rotary knob on 8 speed
The SDV6 felt more powerful and smoother imho in RRS guise - some owners felt it was as good as the TDV8 but I can't offer an opinion never having driven a RRS TDV8 - have driven TDV8 FFRR though and it was 8)Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Unless they just ran out of T badges and just reached into the S letter bin, muttering "that'll do". This is Land Rover after all.

Yup there are 245bhp 6 speed models out there badged as SDV6, usually manufactured around mid 2011. The consensus is that 8 speed (rotary knob) coincides exactly with upgrade to 255bhp for the 2012 model year so registered from late 2011. Forget about looking at the badge, if it has a rotary shift it has 255bhp, if it doesn't it has 245bhp (unless it's a commercial model)

Frankly, it seems the letters on the back mean diddly squat.
The actual engine on all the D4s (in the UK anyway) except for some very early ones that had 2.7 engines (mostly or all D4 commercials I think) are the same 3.0 twin turbo V6 diesel.
Initially they gave 245bhp and later models 254bhp. The main differences in the engine actually wasn't the engine but the gearbox. The original 6 speed box is good but the later 8 speed box is better. There were also some other minor improvements.
Fuel economy (figures) only significantly changed with the introduction of stop/start. Which was beneficial to the road tax!
They have, in the main all proved pretty reliable. The crankshaft problem is major, but still relatively uncommon. All the same, a warranty is very desirable.

I think if you look at MPG threads on here, you will find actual mpg hasn't really changed between any of the models. If anything, it seems the newer ones are worse!
