2.0 vs 3.0 D5

I had the opportunity to take both for a test today. I must say I was very impressed with the D5 handling. The 2.0 is very revvy, not as refined, but does get down the road very respectfully. The 3.0 unsurprisingly is a familiar beast, refined, but didnt seem to be as responsive as the 2.0, may be that the 2.0 felt quicker due to the revs?. The 3.0 is certainly quicker past 60mph.
A couple of observations. The 2.0 handles better, 60kg less over the front wheels is very noticeable, the braking is also better. The 3.0 still suffers from lack of throttle response from a standstill, ie a short delay before it responds where the 2.0 doesn't suffer from this.
Looking around the used D4's after I am sold on the D5. Now just need to find a good deal, as I certainly cannot afford the HSE at book price Sad

Broadspeed already doing nice discounts. Order book when I asked at launch was 2-4 months depending on engine, ie normal wait.

I've always found the 2 litre to be a bit slow in the DS as a single turbo so looking forward to trying it as a twin turbo.

If I was ordering a D5 now I would go for the two litre but overall I would prefer to see what the new engines are like in 1-2 years and whether they do anything to soften the back end (of the car). There is an interesting thread on the DS forum about their views on the D5 rear.

I think Ken is getting one. Would probably be my choice too, if I was buying now. I'm hanging back a year or so to see what the next generation of power train brings.

The new BMW engine will probably be the replacement.

this is where I read it, the V8 option. The D5 should have a V8.

Unless LR do create a SVR option of the D5 I highly doubt they'll ever drop a V8 into it. They'll likely keep the V8 for the RRS and FFRR supercharged versions. The last few years of the D4 all had supercharged V6 petrol versions with similar horsepower to the previous V8 model.
