Wheel Bearings - how long have you got out of them?
Just a question for those who have replaced wheel bearings - both front and rear. How many km's or miles have you got on them before replacement? I'd like to know if theres anything common to the time frames till failure so I could look into the possibility of a preventive changeout rather than waiting for failure. I've just recently had to replace the left rear due to a rapid failure - which isnt normally an issue for me, but I was 1500km away from home at the time. I would normally do the bearings as an axle pair, but the last time I had to do the right rear I didnt have the spare time to get both done.
So this is what I've had so far:
Fronts both replaced 174,000km
Right Rear - 201,000km
Left Rear - 241,000km

130,000km so far and I hope to get notice of an impending failure - most cars I have had notice with knocking and squealing but I did have a LR series 3 25 years ago and the first I knew about it was when the front wheel and hub came adrift only to be held in place by the mudguard (wing) - did move far enough out with the brake drum attached to cause total brake failure.
So maybe on the basis of responses on this thread I will schedule a preventative change before mine fail. I do not do a lot of offroad driving but it has been in deep Murray River mud a few times and its associated muddy water so may have an impact of the life of mine.
I guess up in the Pilbara you routinely drive in dusty conditions and a bit of water so I guess your expected life is a lot less than us city folk.

My rears are a bit more heavily loaded than most too with a long range tank, kaymar twin wheel carrier and quite often a camper trailer in tow. My main concern is I dont want a failure in a remote area - which in all honesty I can drive an hour from home and be remote - 1/2 hour and I have no mobile coverage

I can drive 4km away and have not coverage and that is in the capital and is remote.

made it to 90k Miles.....then one was noisy the other swapped out as a precautionBREXIT - done properly.

Ive got just short of 190k on mine, all original. I tow 2-3 times a week and use it everyday which mostly involves some sort of off roading. Think using it every day helps the most with things like bearings.
Pete.IID, webasto software and workshop facility's available.

Had to do both fronts between 90k-100k miles. Just got a rear needs doing now, 107k miles.Richard

I had to swap one yesterday that had done just under 10,000 miles. The supplying dealer had to put a new one on to get it through its mot before I picked it up. They clearly went for the 50 quid option 2011 D4 SDV6 HSE

I bought my 2006 D3 in August 2012 with 62k miles on the clock and noticed a rumble from the front near side wheel bearing. I had both front done as part of the purchase. Car has now got 150k on it and fronts and rears still going fine and that includes doing a lot of towing of 2T trailers.
Am probably going to get all 4 changed this year though

Mine has had 2 near side fronts at 135,000 then again at 172000 (was a bad britpart hub lasting less than 40,000 , now replaced with timken), offside front lasted about 142000miles. The car has high motorway miles though and not towed. Hence the rears are original at 175,000 but I am getting them replaced next week as a precaution! D3 Doris - forever a project (now sold )

Front's were done by previous owner as part of sale, plus an alternator.
Done at 97,752 miles.
Now at 159,385 miles. Bearings are tight and quiet. Alternator is working fine.
So she must have stuck good items on and not cheap crap.
Rear's are still original. 12 years old. No sign of play or such in them.
