Alarm not behaving as expected
Woke up to smashed front passenger side glass this morning and a small rock on the passenger seat. Nothing taken so it appears to be malicious damage.
Strange thing is, whilst skipping through last night's CCTV footage hoping to narrow the time down I don't see the lights flashing at any time.
So I checked the car has power and the alarm is still armed and stuck my hand in through the hole in the glass but the alarm does not go off. Made sure I pressed the key fob only once so the internal alarm should still be active.
Is this just a fault or am I missing something, like low battery perhaps?
Anyway, Autoglass should attend today so that's the third glass excess within a year. Two smashed windscreens since 2016 now this. They say bad luck comes in threes so hopefully that's my quota for a while.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

Found some very old posts on this subject now bemoaning the fact you can sit in the car and wave your arms for several minutes before the alarm goes off, and the pathetic volume it puts out. One member even persuaded a dealer to do this with him in the showroom to make his point.
Looks like I'll be parking the car further away from the road in future and possibly modifying the alarm to use the horns.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

Apparently if you unplug the siren (near brake servo) it then uses the horns by default.
An excellent mod

Thanks for the info. I'll be doing that this weekend when hoovering out thoroughly for broken glass. I'll need to look up where those gubbins are located though.
I accepted Autoglass spec side glass, instead of insisting on Pilkington Optikool. It was the same tint and apparently keeps the car cool. I asked Privilege to approve Optikool but their policy is no. As I've had 2 Pilkington windscreens and a sunroof from them since 2014, each of which took several weeks of painful negotiation, I can't be bothered now.
Renewal's up at end of the month so cancelled the auto-renewal and am speaking to A Plan to get with an insurer who allows manufacturer glass.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!
