Sorry to butt in chaps, but is a D4 recommended buy at the moment?, the Mrs is hell bent on swapping her D3 for a HSE D4.... and there's no changing her mind, is there anything I should look out for?
Cheers

I can't think of a good reason not too (if you can find one)! What age is she thinking of? The biggest single difference to think about is the move from a 6 speed auto, to the 8 speed with the rotary selector knob.

Had a wander round a couple of D5s today and it doesn't look well proportioned at all.
Even the kids said the rear end just looks ugly.
Also the dealer had literally hundreds of Discovery Sports which tells you something.
(I reserve the right to change my mind if I buy one in a few years)
Couldn't agree more, here's a shot of the fat lardy backside from my visit to Parks yesterday. They also had the full range parked side by side, they just all look so samey now. And with 21 inch wheels they are getting more expensive to run surely?

She's looking for something around 2012, between 20 to 30k £, lots out there, obviously the newer lower mileage and cheaper the better

Sadly no one is going to care about the D4 in a year from now. Only the D4 worshipers.

Just like the D3, it hardly gets a mention on here nowadays

Traffican - I'm in a similar position where my wife just can't see beyond a D4 after 7 happy years with our HSE D3. And tbh, as much as I'd like to explore a different, modern option before maybe a D5 in a couple of years, there isn't much competition out there IMO. I've tried a Q7 (nice drive but it's a big lump and not a looker), Disco sport (too small)...looked at Merc. jag and others without any really standing over and above.
If the need is a big, utilitarian, spacious and comfy car that can seat 7 I reckon the D4 still stacks up.

Coolhurst... thanks for the response, yep, there's no stopping her, I'm not worried though, I like the D4 and could never see us going for the D5... it just looks wrong

I've just been contacted by WBAC again.
I first checked the value of the car, before I bought it, in October 2016 (with 12,900 miles and winter approaching). Now, at the end of March 2016 (with 25,000 miles, summer approaching, 2 owners, rather than 1 and the model now "obselete"), their offer price had dropped over that time by only around £1,500 to £38,605! In % terms, this may be the slowest depreciating car that I've ever owned.
Weren't these meant to depreciate heavily as the market became saturated with nearly new trade ins?

The Disco has always held its value well.
I'm still getting emails saying my DS has gone up in value, eh no it hasn't its just their offer was that low it makes it look like it's going up in value.
I've always had more from a dealer.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
