Oil pump failure - Has this happened to your D3?

Hi
This is my first post. I hope I can get some support from this site and its users.

I have a Dicso3 57 plate having done 113000 miles. The oil pump housing cracked causing the tensioner pulley to shear off causing catastrophic engine failure.

After having done some research it has become obvious this is a known issue with Dicso3 owners (Not LR, apparently)

What I am asking is if anyone who has had the same issue with their D3, please can you comment on this post, giving detail of the vehicle year, mileage at which damage happened and was it before or after cam belt change?

Thanks in advance.

Use the search function as there is LOADS on here about it (and bad luck by the way)

Many seem to happen just after the cam belt change

thanks for your reply. I have done many searches and found a lot of info. ideally I just wanted all those that this has happened to, to reply on this post. so I can gather some knowledge in support of my case.

this will make it easier for me to see the info without going to several different forums. which I have done

Smile

I think generally the cases that have received a goodwill gesture from LR have been one owner vehicles with full dealer service history. Although I am sure there are variations to this.

Bad luck by the way. I take it your oil pump was not changed at its cam belt change in 2014?

the cam belt was changed 2 years ago (feb 2015) as part of the sale. As far as I'm aware and sure the oil pump was not changed......Nov 2016 the oil pump failed.

I have owed the car 2 years now and had nothing but problems. the car was bought from JLR dealership. I am currently pursuing my issues with LR. This is why I would have like others to come forward on this post, as backup to my claim, that this IS a know problem with the old original style oil pump. which LR claim they know nothing about.

thanks all for your advice.

My original oil pump was replaced at 210,000 along with the belts.

But I think my '06 was pre the problematic series of pumps.
Thumbs Up

To be honest, your belt change seems to be a year late? 2007 vehicle = 2014 or 105000 miles whichever comes first.

I know it's harsh, but experience of others suggests that this will go against any claim you might have with LR.

'57 plate could mean Jan - Mar 2008 though, could it not?

Mine failed at 78k, LR weren't interested, in fact Dean Moore from LRCS blatently lied on several occasions and was the most unhelpful person I've had the misfortune of speaking to.
I had also spoken to a team manager Julia Culverhouse 7 months before it failed asking if there were any known issues, I was assured there wasn't and they would look at each case individually.

Fast forward 7 months and they weren't interested, ignored emails, backtracked and lied, the worst customer service ever. Will be my last Landrover product, I'd rather take the bus than buy another.

Sorry to hear this. it is very frustrating.

I too have spoken to Dean. Didn't get much from LRCS. That's why I have taken it further up the ladder. LR have stated that they are unaware of this issue.

I'm guessing you didn't get any contribution from LR?

Nothing apart from poor service and wasted hours, bet if I contacted them again tomorrow they'd tell me they have never heard of an oil pump casing failure, can't lie straight in bed .

DiscoDiva57,

Thanks for adding a comment on my post regarding the same issue. PM me with what details you would like, to help with your case. I have also spent some number of hours doing my research and looking into ways to make LR accountable for this failing. Unfortunately this has happened whilst I am in the middle of studying for my degree and so priorities have rightfully taken over.
At the point of this failure JLR had no reconditioned engines available and so the only option was a remanufactured unit. I searched the web high and low for a replacement engine. I got the engine replaced by the Stealers, who actually gave me the best price. Ready....£9.5K. This issue was reported through JLRCS and I urge anyone who has had this problem to get it recorded properly.
