7 seat to 5 seat conversion for import to Ireland |
|
Has anybody any experience in converting from a 7 seater to a 5 seater? If not, can someone who has a 5 seat version show photos of what the factory does to blank off the floor where the extra seats would be, and if there are part numbers all the better.
This is to allow importing to Ireland as a commercial vehicle. 5 seaters can be registered as commercial and imported to Ireland with considerably less tax that way.
The conversion would have to be done in the UK , as if the conversion was done in Ireland the imprt VRT and VAT would still have to be paid, (although it could still be taxed as commercial)
Also what is involved in the UK to change the UK 'log book' after this conversion, and is there any similar tax class in the uk for commercial versions of the discovery. Any info or companies / garages that do this kind of thing appreciated.
It used to be that commercials had to have 2 seasts, but since around 5 years ago the EU ruled that vehicles with 5 seats could be registered as commercial, provided the load area was a certain size. This means the Discovery 3 and 4 are OK, but the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are not, neither is the latest Discovery 5

After doing a bit more research it seems that Post 2010 you can't convert the vehicle before import to avoid 36% Vehicle Registration Tax, it now has to leave the factory as 'N1'.(the Irish Revenue's commercial categorisation of this class of vehicle). So that's the end of that idea!

I'm afraid since October/November, in Ireland, you can't do any more conversions to avail of the "crewcab" low tax. The only conversion that's currently allowed is taking out all the rear seats to turn it into a 2 seat commercial
