Yes really Im genuinely surprised you didnt know that, or did you assume auctions only sold goods to private people?
It would surprise me to find my dealer buying from auction. I don't think it would be their scene.
Rob, I have followed few number plates on auction sites that ended up straight on JLR's court yard, and if I'm absolutely honest, my 56 plate disco 3 was purchased from the High Wycombe LR dealer, which he said and I quote "this is an ex LR management car". When I got the V5 the previous owner was Enterprise rent a car bought on an auction!!!
Went back and got £2k cash back and £1k in accessories as they misled me on the sales process!

Nice one. Well done.
Most of the D3's move the actuator at switch on and shut down as a test. (useful for oiling it)
If the actuator is completely stuck it will store fault codes. overboost/underboost.
If there is restricted movement it probably passes the test.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest you check the left phalange. Wouldn't be first to turn up on this forum having bought a D3 through auction only to find it's not got one.

Pete K and anglefire ....... your hero badges are in the post despite no turbo related fault codes i got to the actuator and it was stuck solid. Took half a tin of wd and half an hour of just vibrating it with a screwdriver before it would even move a mm. After about an hour I got if fully free'd off and I'm delighted and relieved to report that it now picks up like I always thought it should.
Many thanks to all for your thoughts, just goes to show the real value of such forums especially as the ever increasing tech in cars is leaving us older guys behind !
Excellent news. Just make sure you now lubricate it with a high temperature grease. Mark.

I only bought it a week ago and I didn't have limp mode, just woeful acceleration below 2500rpm. I had the egr fault codes but no other engine codes, specifically no turbo codes. The difference is now night and day.
I went in via the wheel but as I could hardly seen anything and wasn't sure how the top part of the actuator arm was even meant to move, I then tried from on top and also took the protection tray off underneath to see if I could see any better. Once I figured out what should be moving where I worked from the wheel side.

That's what I though Pete but I had no turbo fault codes stored or pending so quite suprised to find it stuck . It was at the furthest point of movement (when ignition cycling) which I'm guessing is fully open .... I wonder if that explains why it was still rapid above 3000rpm

What did you rear the codes with? When the turbo packed up on a previous D3 the garage tried with 3 code readers and saw nothing. Only the dealer's system pulled off the codes. All before IID & similar specialist widgets.

mine must be stuck , as mine will occasionally throw up an overboost fault
found out i didn't have the program to move the actuator on and off , thks to pat at iid had it added
it's just that annoying time going up a hill accelerating it may throw the fault
just wished to say thanks for the heads up regarding this
always good learning

funny that when the dealer asked if i wanted mine plugged in i said no thks i've got an iid
they said it's one of the best diagnostic readers on the market
nice for a change that we don't have to run to them for diagnostics all the time
