Help with detachable towbar lock and key
I have a detachable towbar which was bought off eBay a few years ago and used on my D3 and is now used on my D4
The locking mechanism is not working properly and I only have one working key
I want to buy a new lock but from looking at Duckworths parts there appear to be two locks, one for chassis numbers pre 9A and one post 9A
As I have no idea which car this came from is there a way of telling the one I need from either the towbar or lock itself
If not I suppose I will have to make an educated guess. At least I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right
Thanks

You need to take the green handle off and you will see the differences on the internal surfaces of the handle. If you took it into the parts dept of a LR franchise then they would provide the correct one.
There might be a previous thread describing the differences in more detail.

Hi SteveB, pull off the complete assembly to have a look inside. If it looks like the one on the right it's a KNW5000010. If it looks like the one on the left it's a KNW500020.

You can fit the later handle to an earlier tow bar, but you can't fit an earlier handle to a later bar.
The difference is the ratchet ring, which prevents the tow bar working loose on later versions.

Thanks for all the replies especially Gareth's which implies that if I get the later model I should be ok
