Should I, shouldn't I

Hi all. Following on from my hello last night, went to see the D3 and bought it. All seems good with it ( smells of dog- how do you shift that?) the one thing that is a bit off is tyres. The rear are Pirelli scorpion zero with lots of tread, the front though are a generic SUV tyre, quite bulbous on the side and clearly have a higher profile than the scorpions. Apart from aesthetics am I doing any damage driving with different front and back?

Ideally I would like to get four new ( perhapsAT3 s) but guess they are not cheap and probably should save funds for egr, handbrake etc. Advice please!

It is desirable to have all tyres the same make and tread pattern but definitely not different sizes. Are yours actually different sizes, look at the size on the tyre walls. Should be something like 255/60 x 18 .
Having wheels rotating at different rates can throw up all sorts of issues including damage. The speed and load ratings need to be adequate , its a heavy vehicle .

See what you've got as a spare underneath. If that's half decent track a matching one down and get a cheapo spare - Like the one I'm selling Rolling with laughter

Thanks folks. Picking it up on friday. Will check exact size , profile weight load etc then. It did have matching pirelli on all corners but apparently the fron two were at 3 ml when dealer took it in part ex. Thought that much difference in wear was a bit odd also. They had done 20k though.

had some cooper at/3 fitted to mine

only done around 500 miles in them, but personally found them very good

do get a slight road noise from them, found them excellent in the snow

first 100 x miles they were a bit twitchy but after that am pleased with them

haven't given them a good test off road yet

good luck with the D3 , only had mine 4-5 months and feel it's the best landy i've owned , an awesome thing to drive

Pirelli zeros or general at3 s

Picking up D3 tomorrow. Already decided I can't live with mix match tyres so throwing it out there Pirelli scorpion zero or grabber at3?

Personally think grabbers would look better but car does have 2 pirellis on rear so could keep them as spares.........

Thanks for that, will take the advice I think as long as rear tread is enough. Thanks for the help! Smile

Zeros have a very short life span 15k at best, scorp ATR meant to be double if not treble the life of the zeros.

Let us know how you get on with the doggy smell as Im interested in that, two years later I can still whif it every now and then almost as bad as a smokers car!

ref the doggy smell

i've got a small nilfisk steamer, filled the tank with some frebrezze and steamed cleaned all the seats

smell gone as when using the steamer it's pumped right into the cloth seats

used a white cloth over the end of the steamer plate and couldn't believe how dirty they were

u can also use some diluted vinegar , using a spray bottle onto the seats

noticed also at times a doggy smell was coming out of the carpets

must admit steam cleaning all the carpets as well made it smell considerably better

didn't realise ref the ac,

wonder if the ac is low on pressure if it would ever cause an issue regarding smell etc

So bought the D3 home on Friday, all good so far! Gonna have tyres on the drive fit scorpion zeros on front this week. Only do about 7000 miles a year so not so bothered about longevity, reckon the rears will need replacing in that time anyway so can give more thought to replacing all four then.

The smell! Some times it's not too bad, sometimes I think I'm going to choke on it!!
Bought 2 air fresheners one in front one in back and thought I had cured it -wrong! Masked it for 24 hrs though.

Like the steam clean idea but have leather so not sure about that. We have a mobile valentine guy locally who friends have used, seems to do an awesome job and is very reasonably priced so going to try him with a focus on dog smell. Thought the dealer had done a good job on valeting but looking closer ( rear air vents, plastic around autu shift stick) it seems it was superficial.

Photos to follow but can't bring myself to photo until it has new boots!
