Help.. Replace CV joint or drive Shaft?

I have just replaced the front off side hub as it had some bad play in it....

The 32mm hub nut was torqued up to 230Nm... it is the eralier fine thread version. I did re-use the old nut as the new one would not catch the shaft thread.... I put up down to a poor quality nut...

The result was WORSE then the one I had just replaced Big Cry

Close inspection reveals the fine thread and old nut were perfectly matched to each other... in that the threads were both bu663red Whistle ( not of my making I hasten to point out.. the hub carrier came out no problem with a puller ... and I did not need to apply any additional hammer blows by way of persuasion...).

SO I think I have 3 options... but I'm not sure on the best route to take... and I'm hoping someone can point me toward the preferred course of action.... based on your own experiences..

1. Replace the outer CV joint... ?

2. Remove drive shaft and see if the threads can be rescued..?

3. Fit complete new or second hand drive shaft..?

Any thoughts......

+ 1 for replacing the complete driveshaft and matching hub nut, it is not that expensive and a lot less hassle, apart from separating the inner joint from the diff. Make sure that your new driveshaft comes with a new metal oil seal protector ring as you are very likely to destroy the old one getting the driveshaft out of the diff. Thumbs Up

Thanks both.... so that's 100% for a new shaft... Thumbs Up

Any tips on the getting the shaft Out? Is there a trick or just brute force and perseverence?
