Got discovery back today, but!

Got disco 3 back today, gave it to garage to fit new complete wishbones back/front, drop links etc, complete drilled/groves brake discs back/front with Etc pads etc. Only drove short distance and dsc/abs plus suspension warning light came on amber. Stopped restarted short distance and back on, used nanocom to clear codes, went about 10mls and it gives s single ding and suspension light comes on and off. Had to clear it again. My steering wheel is well off centre as steering arms/ ball joints were also fitted. Getting 4 wheel alignment done Wednesday. Would steering in this state cause lights to come on? The difference in how tight it now feels is amazing. Garage says I need to drive it about 30mls before system will reset?

Until you have alignment done you will have such problems plus you will almost certainly scrubbing lots of rubber off your tyres.

It needs 4 wheel aligning what you're experiencing is typical.
You'll also need the steering angle sensor recalibrating AFTER the alignment otherwise the problems will persist. Rolling Eyes You have messed with the whole geometry of the car and it needs to be told where straight ahead is. Recalibrating the steering angle sensor will do this.
Your garage are talking utter testicles about driving 30 miles too. Nothing resets, you have to do it with a diagnostic tool.

When it goes for alignment, tell the guy doing the job you've had work done and the steering wheel is not now level, he will correct this. Thumbs Up

Many thank for fast reply, does nanocom reset steering angle sensor? I kind of thought steering being off it would throw up problems. I'm still astounded by the tight feeling, when releasing the clutch to move off (manual) it's very direct, no slop/backlash before drive takes up. Only slight problem was that garage was unable to fit the Drilled/grooved discs and EBC green stuff pads that I supplied as they don't fit (to big?) they are Britparf, called supplier and think maybe wrong parts in right boxes! So extra new standard brakes. Journey to supplier ( don't know if v8 discs are bigger than tdv6. Do I need main dealer to reset steering angle sensor?

V8 discs are larger than the standard discs, and will not fit 17" rims

If you get the car 4 wheel aligned do you need to reset the steering sensor still?

Hi, complete follow the other statements. Had the same, alignment heelde that all.
The guy, doing the alignment with laser system blockt and fixed paddles and steering wheel exactly in center, and then adjusted the bolts underneath. So for me, there was no need to adjust the steering wheel per iid. He liked the challenge of the robust arms, as he told to adjust GP-911 Porsche for a Racing team.

Hope the upload of the pic works, this a screenshot of my settings, 15 minutes before "perfect", mechanic said
Was hoping the name of the system mentioned on the software, but isn't.
Was an amarican product, I guess, wheels got octogonal reflector elements, laser was mountes up in front of the car. Part of the meassuring stand was aswell a very specialized lifting plattform, the tire srvice garage absolutely only uses for alignments.

So I absolutely accepted to have to pay € 110,-- for good mechenics work and an interessting chat

As long as the alignment is done correctly with the steering wheel held straight then it should NOT require you to re-calibrate the steering angle sensor. This is on the proviso that you haven't already calibrated before alignment has been carried out, if so then you will have to do so again once aligned if that makes sense.

It's important to use somewhere that has the correct 4 wheel alignment gear i.e. Hunter, and that they know how to use it properly.

My concern is that as the garage don't seem to understand the D3 very well, did they do the job correctly? It is very important that suspension arm bolts are tightened with the arms at the correct height. Front 466mm center of hub to underside of wheel arch and rear 485mm. I don't want to worry you but for your piece of mind and to avoid a very short life for your bushes you need to know.

Many thanks for all replies, garage actually farmed work out to person who has reputation for knowing his stuff? Had look under it and job looks tidy and completé although that doesn't mean much. When I get wheel alignment done I'll update outcome. Not many companies here can do the landrover alignment but at least I've got correct place to do it.

Yes.

I'm getting lower, upper and ARB's done and then the next day taking it to get 4 new shoes and a 4 wheel alignment done, should I ask the garage to reset the steering angle sensor at the same time or will the 4 wheel alignment be enough?

I'm surprised that the garage did such work without including a 4 wheel alignment in the cost or at least advising that one would be needed immediately! Shocked

Apologies, I meant the upper, lower and ARB is being done at home and then I am taking it to a garage to get 4 new wheels and 4 wheel alignment done.

Should I get the garage to reset the steering angle sensor when the 4 wheel alignment is being done?

As long as they have the steering wheel in the straight ahead position and then they align the car correctly then no it won't need calibrating, that is assuming that your steering wheel is also centered properly before you do the suspension work.
