Hi all,
I've got a strange one appearing which I've not seen or heard of before so I need some suggestions... the rear park aid is getting lazy and by that I mean it doesn't detect items until they are very close behind, often not giving any beeps but a continuous tone. It doesn't always do it but it's getting more common.
Do the sensors wear as they get old? Mines an 05MY.
Thanks,
Dan. D3 TDV6 S

I had 2 that didn't work. They didn't cause a fault, just didn't detect anything.
Test each one using your legs.
They should start detecting just under 2.5m

So all 4 sensors tick and make noise however we have a theory that at least one of the sensors may be weak. The only way to get a weak sensor we believe is the rubber isolator ring inside may be perishing.
I have just managed to get my hands on a couple of replacements so I'll pop out and see if I can change the outer's in the carpark as I can get to them, otherwise it'll be bumper off.
Let you know how I get on . D3 TDV6 S

Thanks Pete, I may well be putting a new set on. Where did you get yours from?
Anyone had experience with the aftermarket ones on the 'bay and other part outlets? D3 TDV6 S

Rather than guessing, and struggling to replace sensors with the bumper on. test them!
Park on level ground.
Choc wheel if you feel necessary (some in the back)
without the engine running, turn ignition on and put in reverse.
Open the tail gate so you can hear the beeper.
Get a tape measure set at 2.5m.
Measure 2.5m away from the sensor
Stand there, side on (so the sensor only see's one leg width) infront of the sensor.
Slowly shuffle towards the sensor.
It should start to beep and then increase in frequency.
Then repeat on the next sensor.
Careful to only block one sensor at a time.
It's a good laugh
Replace any that don't beep at 2 meters or you feel aren't working consistently.
Yes I purchased some £9 and £12 ones of ebay a year ago. Good experience.

I had similar problem - I bought our car last year, and was sold it with "strange sensor problem"...
I have a receipt from 4 years prior (for the last owner) from a LR garage reporting fault could not be found.
As these cars are very easy to work on - I just popped each one out - noticed the tiny wire from sensor to main wiring has become brittle and changed it...
In a similar way the sensor was clicking just not the same way as the others... They simply pop out - and as previous mentioned from eBay you can get replacements for a few quid... Colin

Had a similar issue. After fixing the rear the same fault developed. Nothing and then continuous
It turned out to be an issue with the front sensors. It only became apparent when I fixed the instrument panel speaker. On selecting reverse the front was triggering (which was now audible). Tested them with the IDD tool and one was suspect and the other not working (previously was). Changed both and all now good.
No issue with the £12 ebay sensors.

So today I replaced all 4 rears with £12 ones from LR Parts on eBay (24 month warranty) and they seem to have done the job!
Rear bumper wasn't too bad to remove.
Thanks folks! D3 TDV6 S
