I've had a busy few weeks.... on my own car!

All started a couple of weeks ago,
I'd made the decsision to put in a new TC, change the gearbox and refurb a transfer box to go in the old girl as I'm on 231,000 miles and none of the above had been changed before, just regular oil changes.

Just one last customer job full day to do before taking her apart.

Well, it seems she didn't want to be fettled with at all, as going through Kidderminster, I had Christmas tree lights and after I'd pulled over on the grass, she wouldn't re-start.
Checked the transmission ecu and very surprisingly, it was dry as a bone and no sign of corrosion.

Suspecting battery or alternator, opted for alternator as I hadn't changed it for about 5 years. so thanks for Harvoy for popping over with a new one for me. Changed at the roadside, started, but still lights.
Ok, so now a bit more serious. Call out the AA and a recovery truck sorted.

Had a fairly reasonable idea by this point that it was going to be chaffed or corroded wiring in one of the usual places.

Got it back to my local friendly garage who are used to me using their ramp etc.

Rear connector block, found this.

Next morning, stripped out the offending canbus wires and replaced them. All sealed up and problem sorted.

Right, onto the next job of gearbox etc

Some right Censored exhaust bolts, but with a bit of help with the locals, managed to get it out, in and running in time to take the tintent away for a long weekend.

Towed the van fine, and came back on Wednesday.
Fault popped up for the MAF sensor, I could see that the live values keep randomly dropping to zero and reduced power. Ballache, but under warranty so will replace when it arrives.

Next day (yesterday) off back down to see the same customers I'd been going to see the week before, get a little further this time, just outside crickslade and loosing power along the dual carriageway. I'd had my IID in, so look at the live values and map showing only 60-80 kpa instead of 150-180ish

Managed to get off the slip road, stopped and restarted, clouds and clouds of whitish/blueish smoke and the unmistakeable smell of burning oil.

Stopped the car, checked the oil and very very little showing, so it must have burnt a fair amount (checked levels before went away in the van).

Another recovery home.

Now currently up on the 2 poster in the local friendly garage and I've had to come home for the boiler man as the boiler has also sprung a leak.
What a couple of weeks! Let's hope that this is the last of the big issues! Otherwise I may well be selling big issue instead!

That's a bugg@r, there would have been a bit more room to change the turbo when your gearbox was out!

It lives!

Drained almost 3litres of oil out of the exhaust! About the same as I draine dout of the engine!

Got everything back together yesterday and nervously started up, but all good.
Took it for a quick spin up the road and Wow! How much smoke! Lol.
All from residue in the exhaust system still.

Parked it up and then waited for it to go dark and less busy before giving it a bit of a blast to burn the oil out of it.

All working fine thankfully.

Just in for its MOT at the moment, hoping it passes with all the work and parts that's been lavished on it over the last few weeks!

But for now at least, it continues on hopefully for the next 230,000 miles!
