Very occasionally slow to start

Hi all,

I have noticed that very occasionally (I would say maybe twice a month) my D3 is slower than usual to start and sounds like it's struggling for a couple of seconds. On these occasions when the engine turns it sounds weaker/fainter/longer until it suddenly bursts into life and then all is well.

In the midst of the cold Scottish winter I thought this was temperature related (glow plugs or battery) but this morning it was a balmy 8 degrees in Birmingham and I'm on a brand new fully charged battery yet it sounded like it struggled to start. I would say the engine cranks themselves sounded slooow but it probably turned in the same number of turns (apologise for any wrong jargon but hopefully you get what I mean!).

So I know I've got a strong healthy battery. The alternator is reading around 13.8v on a fully charged battery. I let the glow plugs run but it wasn't a very cold morning anyway. What should I look at next?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, have you got a loose battery and/or earth lead?

Have you checked the earth lead at the end furthest from the battery?
Just looking for an easy fix for you....

Could a fuel filter cause this?
