my driver's side electric heated seat is getting too hot to use - am worried about getting burned and/or a fire - is this a typical fault, and is it easily fixed ?

Yes it is typical, the element wears in a joint in the squab foam, if it is to hot to bear it will be burning the foam inside or worse still the leather, only a matter of time before it gets worse and fails or bursts into flames  , new elements for leather are about £110, cloth are cheaper. It is possible to repair the element wth a soldering iron and a short length of suitable cable. It can when others can't,

My driver side seat started getting too hot as well a few months back, then stopped working altogether so no longer a problem >.<

My seats are the opposite and take ages to heat up, would that be the same issue?

It's unlikely both seats have this same fault as the drivers side takes usually takes far more wear than the passenger side. There are two types of heating element one for leather one for cloth, the cloth one is much cheaper than the leather, if your seats are leather it is possible some previous owner has fitted the cheaper cloth elements although it is usually the drivers side that fails. It can when others can't,

Its a strange one TBH, today the seats warmed up super quick, just like my RRS. no rhyme or reason...

Do two lights come on each switch every time?- they have two heating temperatures, max when two lights are on. It can when others can't,

Yes, both come on, like I mentioned I have a RRS, the seats on that work great, the DS3 however is different and seems to do it's own thing
