Hopefully sort out the recent shocking build quality. My Affinity 550 is a lovely design, but I've given up on Elddis sorting out the bugs. They don't give a stuff!

So far, I've put decent screws into the interior to stop it falling apart, sealed up the Heki roof light to stop a leak- Glossop caravans had 2 goes and failed. I've fixed a stress crack in the rear panel, that Elddis said was not a water ingress risk and was therefore not covered under the warranty!

Now it's a good caravan, but the hassle I have had means I will not buy another Elddis, or go anywhere near Glossop caravans!!

Can't argue with you Gareth - my 2010 Elddis Crusader Cyclone went back to factory for new side and roof leak in 2013 after 8 months of fighting for my consumer rights

Bought an Elddis Crusader Storm in 2014 hoping for a fresh start (unfortunately we didn't like anything else) but it was even worse built than the Cyclone so sold it at a big loss after a year and stopped vanning

I've heard good things about Hymer so may be tempted back

Just sad to see another UK company lost

You hear this so many times. Recently on Caravan Club club together there was a discussion about someone who had bought a Buccaneer (still Explorer group) at over £34000 and it was delivered with numerous problems/faults. Not only that he was having issues getting it sorted.

I had a 2005 Crusader Storm for 9 years and it was watertight when I sold it. Only issue in that time was a crack in the Truma water inlet and a crack that developed from the lower corner of the side window - fixed under insurance. Other than that it was a great van and it had some use as well.

I've now got a Coachman VIP and that hasn't been faultless. In fact ive had it 18 months and its still got some outstanding faults. Going back in for this years service soon and more bits fixing.

I had a Fleetwood Countryside late 90s and had no problems with that - cost £10k new

Cyclone was £19k new in 2010 - Storm was £25k in 2014 and both were full of faults - I resorted to diy repairs because of poor dealer and Elddis assistance

Lots of owners on CaravanTalk say old vans were far better than their new models which is crazy

Ok I will further that theory by saying we bought our Affinity off the back of owning a 2005 Elddis Crusader Sirocco from nearly new, until 2014.

It was a superb caravan, we loved the quality of it. It hardly had a problem and was totally dry when we part exed it for the Affinity.

UK caravan industry is going the same way as the motorbikes!

We have a Fleetwood Heritage from the Adria period. We've owned it from new and had no end of damp problems, 2 of the 3 rooflights have been refitted, both awning rails and the front and back top joins. None of it under warranty as both the dealer and Fleetwood went under. It's now about 11 years old so I've given up getting it sorted although it will be inside once the new barn is built. Not what I wanted when I paid £25k for it although it has been a great caravan for the family, tows like a dream and great with alde heating.

We've had 4 new Elddis Crusaders over about 15 years and had no significant problems whatsoever, the build quality was excellent.
We changed to Swift a couple of years ago and are equally impressed. I thought the days of inferior British caravans were over.

Homer will have their work cut out with this one. I had the misfortune to purchase a new Buccaneer in 2009 ( I think). The two photos show what happened on its first outing to France. The unit was a complete shoddily engineered heap of junk. It bent like a banana through lack of structural strength at both front corners. The MD when confronted was useless in the extreme and even the engineer who finally came to see it showed a complete lack of understanding of the problem despite me having rigged up builders lines to show the fronts had dropped and the walls were bowing outwards in front of the axle. Their customer service isn't - it just didn't exist. My previous van had been German and was brilliant.

ditched our leaky 2013 Elddis last year for a much better constructed Adria. No problems so far.
Hopefully Hymer can turn things around at Explorer group cos they have some good looking vans.

Moorside - that's exactly what happened to mine Shocked

I know other owners who had same problem and Explorer claimed they had hit kerbs causing damage - they had to claim on insurance Evil or Very Mad

I drove past the factory last week and they have a huge compound which is normally full of new caravans, but at the moment it is jam packed with with hundreds of chassis cabs waiting for the motorhome bodies to be built on. There was also 2 transporters waiting to be off loaded.

Had 2 an Elddis and a Compass , loved them both , but wasn't impressed with the newer vans so went with a Luna which is great.

Glossop Caravans are shocking IMO you only have to walk round there used section to get an idea.

I looked at a 3 yr old Coachman for £15k with a shagged floor and others with catches broke and trim missing.

The salesmen said we fix all the issues on PDI. I told him that this was no way to present items for sale .

Also go down the eBay special corner at the back, I would not put a dead dog in some of those.

Suppose they all have their good and bad model years. Our first van was a Lunar which was great so we replaced it with another which was awful, particularly the interior fittings. Replaced that with an Elddis Crusader which so far touch wood has been pretty good.

I put a posting on Caravantalk which had something like 12,000 hits. Found another van parked at Calais with the same problem as well as another one quite local to me who had purchased the van from a dealer close to me. I showed the selling dealer of that van pictures of my van but when they saw the other one they said thy hadn't seen anything like it before, bunch of lying, thieving ...........s.
