Roof tile gone straight through side window on disco
Hi all just had a roof tile blow off my house roof and gone straight through the rear side window on my discovery
would any body know which insurance would I need to claim off my house or my car?
I do recall one of my friends saying insurance company's class it has a act of god and wont pay out is this true?
Many Thanks Ash

I would go with the car insurance. Probably has a lower glass excess than your house. Also won't affect ncd, it might do on your house policy.

I had similar some years ago albeit my roof tile damaged a neighbours car. My house insurance dealt with it.

Storm damage isn't an act of God; it's storm damage! If your roof got ripped off in a hurricane like 1987 provided you had the cover you got paid out. At my last house we had some tiles move in a storm that meant the whole valley had to be stripped and re cemented in, the NFU paid no problem.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

If it has not done any other damage its a very easy job to replace if it's the door glass, as is 3 minutes, may be cheaper to buy one and DIY. Longest job is vacuuming the broken glass up.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Your home insurance won't pay for damage to your own car.
However if your roof tile fell on to a neighbours car then it's down to your neighbour to prove you have been negligent and if successful then the "property owners liability" section of home insurance would meet the cost. Should your Insurers not consider you were liable then they would defend the claim.
If it's a result of a storm then a neighbour may find it difficult as it was beyond your control and unless they could demonstrate your roof was in a poor state of repair. If your neighbour said they were aware the roof needed work then they may well still be unsuccessful in recovering their costs as they were aware of the risk when parking.
I had similar some years ago albeit my roof tile damaged a neighbours car. My house insurance dealt with it.
Seems a bit hit and miss with insurance, mate of mine had a neighbours tile come off and damaged the roof and boot lid of his three month old 5 Series, the neighbour was fine about but the neighbours house insurance insisted it was Act of God, ended claiming on his own car insurance.

had similar...cement fell from our roof hit centre bonnet...house insurance didn't want to know unless it hit third party...also tried to suggest roof not maintained properly...could have gone car insurance route but landrover dealer jacked up the price when they knew it was insurance job £1750....offered to pay direct $650....they had allowed a new bonnet,,when all that was needed was filler and spray bonnet.
the fact that the storm is well advertised is in your favour.

An "Act of God" relates to an incident which is out of the control or intervention of a person. Such as a storm or earthquake.
Home insurance does not exclude (usually) but in fact actually lists what you are insured against - fire, theft, escape of water, storm plus a number of other "perils"
The home policy does not have an exclusion for "Act of God" To provide cover for storm then exclude it would be illogical.
However there is also the "legal liabilty" aspect which provides cover for claims made against you - (just like a motor accident) your insurer would only pay when it's your fault. A storm is not your fault so any damage you/your property causes to someone else is not legally your responsibility.
It may seem harsh on neighbours if your tile hits their car in a storm but the term "Act of God" is not the reason they won't get paid.
