Electric park brake

Hi all having trouble with my handbrake when I put it on out side my house (on a bank) it makes a loud screeching noise but only on a bank. It is perfect on the flat. I have tried taking the key out and manual putting it on and still does it but whene I put the handbrake on and leave the engine running for a couple of mins it does not do it. Is it a ease fit or not?

Get it adjusted asap. Mine gave up very quickly after it started screeching. I ended up getting a whole new EPB.

Yep. Get it adjusted PDQ. Mine started squealing on the school run last week then failed within a mile of starting to squeal. No other warning, nothing, just a car with a jammed on EPB blocking a key road in Bath. Embarassed The emergency release worked a treat but really needed a big yank!

Anyway I had it recoverd and repaired by the AA with a nice £500 contribution Thumbs Up Once at the garage I decided to go the whole hog and replace the whole rear brake system, bearings and back plates whilst I was at it. After 200,000 miles of trouble free use I can't complain. Thumbs Up

Two local garages are saying it is going to coast £1000 to do as thay will have to replays the holl handbrake and rear park shoes. Don't now if that is right?

My emergency release cable didn't work. I had to cut mine to get it free!

It could be right, but probably isn't. Start with a good clean and adjustment, doing this will show you what sort of state the shoes and springs are in. On my D3 the shoes and springs (that adjust and work them) were totally shot, I replaced them and adjusted as per Bodsy's brake bible and they worked as good as new.

I'm by no means a mechanic but took my time and got it all done on the driveway Thumbs Up
