MY2012 D4 "pebble" key.
So, some months ago my good lady wife mislaid one of our D4 keys. It's an HSE model so the key has a memory function for seats mirrors and the whole keyless entry malarkey. The car is in for servicing so I asked for a quote for a new key.
Apparently, at some secret point in the 2012 model year, Landrover changed the protocols so that you couldn't just programme a new key, but had to replace the receiving box (with a special name that I can't remember). If it's just the key and programming I need it's an eye watering £269. If it's the key and the receiving box with the special name, it's an excruciating £689!
Does anyone have any light to shed on this or am I stuffed?

I think that one of the things LR did was to make the keyless module (KVM) read only at some point so that keys couldn't be added without replacing it. I do know that I was able to add a key to my 2010 and I can't to my 2016 using my IID tool. I thought that it was much later when the KVM was made read only - more like 2014. I'm sure someone will know better when the KVM was changed to read only.
Get a secondhand key (I might have one for sale ) and a forum sponsor with an IID pro to try it for you - probably the only way you are going to know if you need to replace the KVM is to get a key and try it.
Secondhand keys go for £20 - £50 and I'm sure a visiting sponsor with the IID tool wouldn't charge much more to attempt to pair it to the car for you.

keys have nothing to do with the seat memory anymore ..that was on the D3 ..not the D4
should not be a problem to pair a new key with IIDG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Well you certainly can't do it on a 2016 using the IID.

That's it, a "KVM" box. According to my dealer, at some time in the 2012 model year Landrover decided to make it impossible to pair a new key to the KVM for security reasons. The exact point or VIN from which this happened is a Landrover secret - presumably so that the criminal classes can't steal cars based on VIN.
I bought mine in March 2012 and I guess it had been in the dealers showroom for a few weeks at that point. Maybe I'm lucky and I can still pair a new key to it.
I live in Haywards Heath, anyone know where I can procure a new key locally at less than dealer prices and get it paired?
