FBH Not Working - Mystery of Pair of Disconnected Wires
Dear all, my D3 recently returned from a trip to Switzerland with a number of issues. The vehicle is a very low mileage (70K) 2006 TDV6 SE. The first issue was that at anything below -0c the engine would turn over but refuse to start even after the GP light had gone out. The FBH has also failed to kick in after starting where the outside temperature was -5c or below. Prior to leaving for Switzerland the FBH kicked in without failure. Another fault that was present the the vehicle returned from Switzerland was that the SRS airbag warning light was permanently illuminated. Over the last week-end the battery drained after 4 hours with just the radio on and a quick check of the battery condition at a reputable garage revealed that the battery was 'unstable'. I purchased a new Yuasa Black Lifetime Guarantee Battery 019 which conforms to the battery specifications for my vehicle. In familiarising myself with the procedure for removing and replacing the battery connections I read that failure to adhere to the procedure could raise a fault in the SRS airbag warning system. Question 1 - as a novice with the vehicle is this possibly the cause of my SRS airbag warning failure light? I am in the process of booking the vehicle into Harwoods, Pulborough for a check up and they will charge me £75 for the privilege before they tell me what the issue is. On removing the 'unstable' battery I noticed that a connector up by the N terminal was without a cable. On removing the battery I found an 'orphan' twin wire with connector (see attached picture) apparently deliberately tucked up out of the way. The colour of the two wires were red and the second wire was green with a thin red line. Question 2 - what function do these two wires service and could their disconnection have resulted in either the SRS airbag warning light illumination or the failure of the FBH to work. Having reconnected the wires there is no discernible change in either faults. Is there any logical reason why someone would have disconnected the wires in the first place? Grateful for any insight you guys can provide.
All the very best - Graham

Starting probs below 0 degrees is probably your glow plugs.
FBH - I suspect your FBH is locked out and will require a diagnostic tool to unlock it. This could be caused by having the fuel light illuminated whilst starting. 3 starts with light on, results in FBH being locked out.
Airbag warning light - A very common cause of this is the connector beneath the drivers seat coming adrift. Go take a look and ensure everything is plugged up under there.
Battery drain - If you had the keys in the ignition the battery will drain very quickly indeed. These animals are very power hungry so your experience is typical.
Regarding your two wires, not a clue, could be anything. Post a pic. Mods:

Added your photo for you.
You could try doing a hard re-set and see of that clears anything.
The procedure is explained in the Wiki section, but it's easy enough to do and involves disconnecting the battery and 'shorting' the two cables together for 30 seconds or so.
I'm not sure what those wires are for.

The wires should be tucked out of the way and ignored as they are not used after delivery.

Just checked under the drivers seat and the connectors appear to be correctly connected. I have also just performed a hard re-set and the SRS airbag light remains illuminated. I have not been able to check the function of the FBH as the engine is still warm and the outside temperature is a positively balmy 13c.

Yes, it was for the transit relay - used between manufacture and pre-delivery prep by the dealer.
