| Help needed please - Header Tank |

Hi,
I have searched for similar threads but got no answer.
V8 MY05 D3, 6 months ago after adding the Clock on Dash mod I soon got the Low Coolant Level warning. Faulty Header Tank bleed screw noted and new style Header Tank fitted but using old cap. After bleeding no more probs.
Until today!
This morning I noticed that the Header Tank had dumped its contents on the drive last night.
Refilled and bled this morning and all OK, the temp guage is static at half way when warm and the heater works. Oil OK no water, Water good no oil.
Came home today and half an hour later went to go out, same again dumped its contents. Refilled and bled again, went out and upon return opened the bonnet to watch the cap, all good, turned off the engine and waited 10 min, still all good, started engine again and the guage was at half way, reved the engine for a couple of mins at 3,000rpm, still good. Again I turned off the engine and watched the cap to look for fluid loss, nothing, gave up and went in as it was bleeding cold. Came out half an hour later and fluid all over the drive again!
Went out for a drive again and tried this all over again and the same results.
So, I am hoping that this is just the cap failing?
Or is there an issue when the thermostat closes and the system somehow gets more pressure build up?
I will see if my local LR garage has a new cap.
What are your ideas please? Series 1 V8

Went for a drive and got it up to temp, came home and sat in it with the Nannocom, water temp 85deg, turned off engine and watched it eventually got to 44deg. Sods law no fluid loss!
Of course didn't put a charger on the battery so got to charge it now! Series 1 V8

Had the same after changing my coolant tank but not the cap.
Found out that the cap wasn't engaging properly when hot - was fine when put on cold - and wasn't holding pressure.
As a temporary measure I used an elastic band around the threaded neck of the tank and that worked - so much so I've not got round to putting a new cap on some 6 months in... 
I will do now I've had my memory jogged... I see no ships........

It has stopped now I have sat and watched it twice!
I cant get a new one until Tuesday so your trick sounds good. Series 1 V8
