Oil leak and recommend a good Indy |
|
I do want to love my D4, I really do, but it's I don't think it wants to stay and it might not!
I have an oil leak, quite a good one. Having removed all the under trays and washed the whole engine down twice I have concluded the source of the leak is somewhere in the V between the cylinder banks. I've followed all the advice on the forum and checked, and double checked the filter housing and seals, but I can see that the filter housing is not "wet" and the problem is deeper down in the V with oil pooling at the bottom. Looking through the various drawings I can see there are many potential culprits - oil separator, oil cooler, breathers and of cause the more traditional issues like head gasket, cam cover gaskets. There's also the high pressure fuel pump but I assume that is not lubricated by engine oil??
So - any advice?
1) Do any of the bit's of kit in the V have a reputation for leaking oil?
2) Has anyone had any success with probing round with an endoscope?
3) Can all these "oily bits" be accessed/repaired with the body on by an enthusiastic owner without specialist land rover tools?
Finally - If I am unable to find the source of the leak, can anyone recommend a good independent that may be able to help in the Berkshire area - Ascot to be precise.
Many thanks
Tim

Not sure what garages are more over your way, but Rovertune in Reading are good. Not too far to go for a specialist.
