In the end I decided that I didn't want yo risk cracking the crossover pipe as I removed the box. I took it to auto gearbox specialist in Hailsham. They are next door to Sussex auto parts who reconditioned the torque converter for them. The gearbox place is highly professional. They seem to specialise in ZF gearboxes and Geoff the owner is very knowledgable about everything ZF. He took time to explain what he had done and has promised me a copy of the report from next door re the state of the torque converter. I asked about the Dr Tranny that I had been putting in it. He said that he had been working with ZF in relation to it so it's obviously approved stuff. They replaced the pan with a metal one as well. Apparently the plastic ones can crack. It now drives like a brand new car. So much torque. Even though the only symptom was the juddering about 20 mph it was clearly struggling to remain efficient.
