Fuel gauge needle gone beyond |
|
As per title my fuel gauge needle has gone up past the full mark , no amount of switching on/ off the ignition, this has happened before but it was always in below the half way mark or below it and normally rectifys itself within a day or so driving, could it be the fuel sender unit in the tank needs tackling, also the fan control is on full power at the first setting and there every other setting , swapped the relay beside battery, no difference, could the two be related? It a 2006, auto, 160kms, air suspension . Pointers please!

Full power fan is failure of the resistor pack that controls the fan speed.

Unplug and plug back in the big connector |
|
The last jpg on the pdf link below shows the rear of the instrument cluster.
At the top corner, there is a rectangle that is the socket where the one and only power cable to the instrument cluster plugs into.
Over time, that plug seems to partially loosen and some of the contacts quit contacting. Usually it is the temperature gauge that first quits, but normally it is the gauges that are the first indication that the plug needs to be unplugged and then plugged back in.
You do not have to totally remove the instrument cluster; just pull it out enough that you can get at the cable connector to wiggle it around and either remove and reinstall or just wiggle and reseat.
It might work, and is a good first fix attempt and is much simpler than removing the fuel tank.
Make certain your 3 is asleep as the instrument cluster contains the backup memory chip for the car computer.
