Brake light bulbs what to buy and where from ?

Do I need to use genuine brake light bulbs, where's best to buy these from ?

Told using Halfords ones can have the wrong resistance cause the car to break down.

So a complete waste of money except for the reversing lights

Blimey, there really is some confusion surrounding this issue. Rolling Eyes

The reason the brake bulbs can cause such issues is if the bulb blows, but the filament collapses across the terminals, the resistance value changes and the car throws it's teddy out of the pram. As it was suspected cheap bulbs are more prone to failure, decent quality bulbs have always been the order of the day. Decent quality LED bulbs should also be fine but it would be wise to change both sides rather than have LED one side and regular bulbs the other. Wink

Pete - Hmm well yes and no, I would say they're doing the job and will help the battery life while engine isn't running and should in theory last longer than filament, it annoyed me that in the time I've had the car I've gone through 3 bulbs, and not the cheap nasty ones either.

Narpy - Yeah it's rather annoying when she lights up like a christmas tree, kept a stock of the Osram and Bosch bulbs but when the last one blew that was the last straw so gave in and bought these, yeah they're all LED on the rear now, the only ones that aren't are the indicators until I can find some resistors I'm happy with haha.

Any old bulb will do from any named maker, just keep spares in the car, it is after all just a bulb and er thats it!
I tried led it didnt end well so back to std filament for me.
