Air Bag Module
Dear All
Looking for some advise. I took my 2004 HSE Disco 3 TDV6 into the garage yesterday for MOT. I warned them upfront that the air bag light was on.
They plugged it into their diagnostics and advise it is showing a fault code that indicates the air bag module is reading no resistance eg: the wiring is open circuit and the unit therefore needs replacing.
I quizzed him on it a little and he was very confident. I guess i am just wondering if there is any advise on here of things to check prior to purchasing a new airbag module or is this a fairly common failure point and i need to just get over it and buy a replacement.
If i do need to buy a new unit does it have to be new from landrover or are there other suppliers out there.
All advice greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Richard

If the airbag module has failed it is because an airbag has been fired, the only thing that can cause this is an impact, but an open circuit can mean a broken connection/wire.
If the module has been deployed (an sir bag has been fired) there are companies that specialise in resetting them very reasonable cost, do an Internet search. If you know the history of the car you will know if an airbag has been fired, if you don't be prepared for the worst as is airbags removed or cut out to sell, particularly the curtain airbags. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi M3DPO
I did not mention the light has come on during my ownership, so cant have deployed. After diagnosis by mechanic he advises it's reading open circuit on the air bag module itself. The mechanic described it as most likely a broken connection wire.
Just been looking on ebay actually and seems you can buy new ones for £150 so this is a lot better than the verbally estimated £400+ the mechanic guessed. He did say he was guessing and suggested i shopped around. They feel like good guys.
Guess ill just go with that then
Best regards
Richard

I had similar symptoms and the only solution was a new airbag module and reprograming to match my car despite several attempts by various companies who claimed to be able to reprogram my existing module which all proved to be a waste of money.

hi
don’t know if u remember i had that nightmare when i bought mine, they had cut out the curtain airbags
did indeed have the srs light on, replaced the drivers side curtain air bags , pre tensioners , drivers seat airbag and then used the iid to reset the ecu back to normal and the light went out
think i was lucky not having to buy a new srs ecu , don’t know if there’s a limit with the ecu of how many times crash data is allowed to be stored
bought it as a project and just assumed the srs light was just a loose wire and turned into so much more , headlining removal was good fun,
