are all D3 owners complete idiots?

without being disrespectful I've been wondering this for a while now.
have we all gone mad, buying a car like this?
I mean, I know I fell for its looks and the way it drove when I tested it, but Jeeeeee, it IS a nightmare once it starts to bugg.
I guess I should have listened and read all the difficulties D3 owners had and have on this forum before even going out to see one.

been driving Defenders TD5 for 14 years and I thought they were cars with bit of a character, but this one beats all.

granted, if it runs its the nicest car I ever owned, but with all the electronics in it I never really feel at ease in it. I always await the next 'bong' and message on the dash.

and the problem is as well that once it starts bugging, the point of no return is reached very very quickly cause once the invoices start coming in, there's no telling when it stops and you've invested waaaaaaayyyy too much to be able to sell it on without taking a very painful and substantial financial loss.
not to mention the money you put in it to look or drive even better.

Laughing Embarassed

but the looks are there, it's a very sexy and classy car when it's able to move.
soooooo, no point in complaining I guess. as we say in Holland: if you burn your ass, you have to sit on the blisters.

true, same here.
when I wake up in the morning I hear a 'bong' as well and the mirror reflects some error messages.

have not found the cause yet, but guess it's a few connections missing or rotten due to water ingress.

Rolling with laughter

Four years and 80k in, I'm still feeling I want to put my fingers in my ears before I turn the ignition key, so I won't hear the BANG!

My D3 knows this, so it frequently puts up the "Engine System Failure" message while I'm still waiting for the glowplugs Big Cry

Had mine from new which is nearly 12 years now. Have always had the LR warranty which has paid for most items that have needed fixing. Overall I am still very happy with the car. I keep it in as perfect a condition as possible, regularly service it and basically fettle as much as I am allowed by SWMBO.
Maybe I am a little crazy??
But I think I am similar to most folks who are long distance owners
Keep on with it. It's well worth it given what a fantastic car it is while it's behaving !! Series 3

There is certainly something to be said for having some sort of warranty all the time, with any D3, D4 or D5. At the times when I am running any of those cars as my main everyday vehicle (which is always!) I insist on it being in warranty, so I either extend the warranty or change up to a new vehicle.

It's a different matter if the vehicle is a secondary one.

But I cannot foresee me ever having a Discovery 5 that is not in warranty, as the electronics on those, even in their most basic form, are very complex....

People said the same when the montego went with elec ign oohh the tech no one will be able to fix it Mr. Green

Think star wars style films where some boy fixes high tech bits of scrap, in our future some kid will be doing it with an app!
