LHD Adaptive Xenon - will it work?

Hi all - I'm after a near side adaptive xenon headlight fairly urgently... I've found a D3 HSE being broken which is a left hand drive French vehicle.

Question is, is it possible to use a LHD EU spec adaptive Xenon and 'switch' for use in UK?

I'm sceptical but just after some confirmation so if not I can keep searching.

Cheers! Thumbs Up

There's a small lever in the headlamp to adjust the beam for driving on the left or right.
It's explained in the owner manual.

So I'd guess there would be no real difference in the light assembly other than the position of the lever for a LHD one.

Thanks JMack, I wasn't sure if the lever was just in UK lights for travelling on the continent, or whether it was also on EU spec lights for travelling within the UK. Makes sense both ways I suppose.

Maxbasscat - the car has burnt, so not a lot left!

As far as I know (I'm open to correcting) if you use the leaver it flattens the beam so it doesn't rise at the wrong side when driving abroad. But that also does mean you won't have the same beam pattern as before at the near side (won't light up the footpath as well)

If I switch mine to drive on the right, it does just flatten the beam pattern, not make it kick up on the right instead of the left. Having said that it did pass the MoT when I forgot to change it back.

Got mine LHD MOTd without knowing about lever, I looked as I have RR but could not see a lever. Garage had no problem provided I blocked out beam with adaptors.

I have had a couple of LHD Sports, a neither had a lever on the back to change the beam pattern, basically I think you find the European LHD vehicles simply dip down, whereas the UK vehicles dip down and to the left.

Thanks all for your advice, very helpful.

It's going for MOT next week which is why I wanted to clear it up before committing to buy, which I think I will.

On a bit of a side note I see from reading into it that beam deflectors seem to be OK for an MOT, though looks to depend on how the tester interprets it.

Beam deflectors in my case were not actually used. I had them but did not put them on. It was funny but within the same MOT testing station there were differing views. It is written down but very much open to interpretation. I did have an amount of discussion with the tester beforehand Whistle it probably helped. Good luck

Just as a follow up in case anyone has the same dilemma - it passed no problem.
