Turbo actuator causing limp mode sorted

Twice this week the D3 went into limp mode. No split hoses no smoke so looked to actuator having read plenty of threads on here. Seems to be common fault this time of year, probably caused from damp air, road salt and wife driving like miss daisy

30 min fix and car is back to top notch performance. Very noticeable so must have been a problem for a few months as it really goes like stink again

For those who have same problem its an easy fix, you dont need a new turbo!!!

First fettle a tool like this from a coat hanger, or as i did from copper brake pipe

With a can of wd40 handy, jack up front passenger side and remove wheel

Then remove the ally heat shield 3x10mm nuts to access the turbo area

Using a torch look in between the screw with gold coloured washers and you should see a ball joint about 1/3" set back about 15mm in the gap, this is the actuator linkage

The idea is now to gently push and pull adding wd40 to the surrounding atea until it moves freely with almost no resistance about 3/4" forward and backward

Mine wasnt too stuck like some but it did loosen up after a good spray

Actuator ball joint linkage is located at he end of the brake pipe tool with the blue end pointing at it

Its a Censored to find unless you know where to look!

Easy job and car is back to peak performance
To be repeated every 4 months to keep it healthy i think

Thumbs Up

Nice one Lee. Will have to give this a go. Had an engine system fault while booting it a few weeks back so might as well have a go at this Thumbs Up
