Multiheight tow bar, how easy to remove?

The D4 has the mahoooooosive varaiable height tow bar. I don't tow, I don't use it as a bike rack (as prev owners did), it's only use is with the reversing camera as a bit of a reference point. I don't use it as secondary parking sensors, honest. Whistle

How easy is it to remove? It's been on for 5 1/2 years, is it going to be more hassle than it's worth trying to remove it? Was thinking of I did ever need to go off the tarmac I wouldn't want to get hung up on it as it really would turn into a plough.

Thoughts peeps?

Hi Del

Mine had been on for a few years and come off no problem. I sprayed the lock mechanism and the chassis bolts with penetrating lubricant for a few days before I attempted to remove it. I removed the 2 arms from the plate to the chassis and then the rest dropped out, but watch it as it is heavy, should have maybe removed the towball and height plate first.

Cheers

Unfortunately not heading your way til prob back end of the year (Oct Chepstew camping?), and will need it off if I'm taking the new shiny toy to Scandinavia rather than the old girl. Mr. Green Whistle

Thanks for the offer though. Thumbs Up

You could just remove the hitch and the big plate which is only needed if you need it at he top height setting anyways. To be honest I never thought I'd go for a fixed hitch over the removable one because I thought I'd end up ploughing furrows off-road, but now we have the fixed on both cars and I can't see it being a problem off road, if anything they are less likely to ground the the removable ones which I had permanently attched to the car, on or off road.
