Had a simalier issue with mine and found the brake pedal was not returning fully when taking foot off, this was allowing the brakes to bind slightly and as they heated it got worse, when it does it can you lift the brake pedal up slightly, also my pedal was always very hard, dealer adjusted the brake switch as it was not in the correct position and as soon as this was done the pedal seemed to return fine, felt better under braking ,was not so firm and vibration has stopped.

Hi Cosmin,

I can see similarities with mine. My steering occasionally shakes like yours when I'm driving between 90 to 100km only... I don't think this is related to brake pads or discs because I changed the whole set with brand new Land rover genuine parts (front/rear) and the issue is still there. The problem occured progressively after changing my tires for brand new GOODYEAR WRANGLER DURATRAC and when I left my car parked for an entire month. So I suspect Tire deformation or stabilisation bar bushings. If not that could be stearing ball joints I think. Did you solve your issue?

Cheers

Xav

Guys, some feedback on this from a local chap: http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showth...ost3484113

Finally got Duratracs fitted, no more shudder on the steering at 80-100. So far so good but will have to do some proper off-road testing this weekend.

Hi,

Thank you all for your advice and help with this.

Calipers and discs checked and found to be OK.
I have managed to swap some normal tyres and do a 2 days trial. With these on, the steering wheel shaking/vibration is greatly reduced, I would say to about 20% of what it is with the AT tyres. The steering wheel also feels a bit stiffer probably from having a larger tyre surface in contact with the road. It still doesn't feel right though. None of the other cars that I drive have these symptoms and I do drive on the same straight road every day 60 km to and back from work. It feels like the steering is too light and any imperfection on the road surface gets to affect it too easily and makes the steering wheel shake. But with steering rack and column changed and proper 4 wheel alignment done by LR I don't know what else could cause this except for a potential issue with the hydraulic pressure in the steering system which I intend to check next.
I've also had a chat with Dean from AJS Tyres who's been very kind and confirmed that from his experience AT tyres should not be the cause but they could make the situation worse as it seems to be the case with my car.
Xav, I have also considered flat tyre spots but I do drive the car every day so even if that's part of the problem it should not be felt after just one night. ARB bushings and ball joints checked several times and confirmed to be OK.
Naks, thanks for your suggestion. I will try to get in touch with Qoda and get his opinion.

Thanks again for all your help.

Cosmin

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem as Xav which came after changing front discs and pads. Calipers seemed ok but I got a shaking steering wheel from 80-90 km/h. Also brake function was perfect with new discs and pads and there was no heat. Shake went away when braking. I changed both front calipers yesterday and shaking is gone. Reason I did this was that I had the exact same thing with my old D3 and it took me some time to finally change the calipers that time. Also that time the shaking went away. The D3 and D4 seems to be sensitive to slightly binding calipers.

On Tuesday my D4 got new front discs & pads, and I can report that the slight steering wobble is now gone, so that seems to have done the trick.

My indie also states that they only use genuine LR discs, as the other brands just don't live up to expectations. Pads were Delphi.

I got the Borg and Beck ones from Advancedfactors. Worked nicely on my D3 so will see how it works out on the D4. So far so good but has only been on for 200 kms.
