Lancasters - Reading (Service)

Well,

This might be a little premature but, I would like to say big Thumbs Up to Doug at Lancasters.

He has yet again been top bloke in looking at my truck, in this instance the cold start issue that I have had since I got the car.

They have witnessed the fault for real (rather than a mobile phone video) and are investigating how they are going to resolve it.

Don't get me wrong, I am far from impressed that I have this problem, but I am very happy with Doug's attitude towards me and getting the situation sorted out.

GOOD JOB! RIGHT THERE!

I have needed his assistance in the past with one of my D2's, and he was superb then - fully appreciated the situation and got the matter resolved, if not the first time around. It was all sorted and I was a happy bunny.

But, the cold start problem is NOT yet fixed............

And then there is the rattle....... Big Cry

Rattle.

My rattle has just been diagnosed. Was not what I thought and said it was. Waht does your rattle sound like (other than a rattle that is)?

I am fairly certain it is one of my occasional seats rattling in the spring loaded holder, I shall try and investigate further this weekend.

Well, the last visit and diagnosis and attempted resolution did not work...... Big Cry

So it is back with Doug next week for some fairly major work requiring the Body-Off. Thumbs Up

New tank and fuel lines upto the engine etc.

Since the new pump was fitted in the tank the problem has gotten a little worse.......

I shall also be getting some wheels replaced and the rattle addressed (occasional seat clip is faulty) along with some other work done.

Here's hoping that this next batch of work will resolve the cold-start issue, I shall see if I can get some pictures of my truck with the body-off.

Again, nice on Doug Thumbs Up - he is a very nice man.

How did they fit a new pump in the tank? I thought they had to replace the entire thing as the pump is effectively sealed inside Confused

and... WTF is an occasional seat clip Question Confused

Well, as I understand it they dropped the tank and changed the pump, but that hasn't made any improvement - however, as I don't have access to Microcat/IDS/GTR I am not sure if the tank pump is integral or not, I would surprised if it is. With D2 the tank pump is a replaceable item.

Occasional seats, the folded down ones in the boot area, therefore occasional. 8)

The clip/retainer unit that is located in the floor that is used to lock the seat down ( I know my 'labelling sucks' ).

Ah, I see, don't think occasional describes them very well, it's a D3, they're full size adult seats, not a D2 with occasionally useful for kids not much use for anyone else normally just in the way seats Wink


ISTR there are two pumps in the tank, perhaps one is accessible and one isn't Confused

Hey Gareth,

OK, basically on the very first start of the day, after on overnight cool-down etc, the car turns over and battery light goes out, revs climb, then they drop, battery light comes back on, anti-stall kicks in, revs climb, battery light goes out and car achieves idle.

Sometimes the battery light sequence will happen more than once, and sometimes it really struggles to start at all.

A bit like old petrol engines when flooded, sort of thing.

ONLY does it on the first start of the day, all the rest fine - car turns over, revs climb, battery light goes out and car reaches idle, nice and smooth and no 'lumpiness'.

Car runs OK, getting around 30mpg overall average and managed 35mpg the other day - it seems to 'run' OK, but happy for you drive it and see how it 'feels' compared to yours.

Mine is an 04/54, a early one.

Si, well they are very occasional seats AFAIAC, I don't intend using them. Laughing

I just couldn't think of a better way of describing them...

As for the tank, I don't know then, Doug was not specific about what was done as such and I (wrongly) assumed that only one pump existed in the tank.......

So, if the tank has two pumps, is one for high pressure side of the fuel system and one for the low?
