General purchasing tips...
Hey,
Hope you're all well and apologies if this is the wrong thread for this...?
I'm on the hunt for a Disco 3 and this guy's in my budget (well slightly above... but...) and ticks quite a few boxes of what I'm after. It seems like mileage is alright for age and cam belt has been replaced.
I'm all the way down south and tempted to get up north to get it but looking for some advice and super knowledge for what I should be looking out for/aware of before I tapes up there...
From the various buying guides and bits i've read I should be looking for the below when testing but is there any other warning signs I should be looking for prior to actually viewing it?
Check onsite...
Suspension: Make sure Air sus work properly
Check for power response on accelerator
AC
Make sure it’s 7 seater
Engine
Drive chain
~2006 check sunroof frame
Parking break
central locking
rear windscreen wiper
Anything else....?
thanks in advance!

I think you would be better off having a look at some locally this weekend.
You will then be better placed to head north with more understanding of what they are about.

nothing to doing with me I must add!
Not sure that I would buy from a dealer at the sort of age and price you are looking at. Better fin a well loved private sale and check it out thoroughly.

The OP's original one looks a bit over-priced for a low spec '07 to me.
But I'm no expert.
I'd also prefer to buy one local after some of the experience I had buying mine from 60 miles away.

Was speaking to a friend about traveling to see used cars the other day. We concluded that by committing to traveling significant distance, you have more or less committed to buying it (in your own head), and the seller will know you're committed, and will be less likely to budge on price.
Just our thinking, whilst he was looking at 2 year old Audi RS4's to buy!Richard

The mileage is low but may mean many things haven't been replaced yet meaning expensive bills just around the corner.
The one that Canburne pointed out for sale on here has had lots of work done and is far cheaper. (Also closer to home for the op).
I know which one I'd be looking at

Okay - great! Yeah, sound advice. I've driven a fair few but probably a bit dumb putting those miles in.
Called a favour ti my uncle up there, he's going to spin through!
Thanks!

you sure! hahaha. Seriously though, real nice yup!
Yeah you're probably right re. private, I had just raised the topic of Part Ex with him and he was in to it with my other car, saving me a load of time. Hence interest in dealer. But I think in hindsight, slowing down and doing what you've said is better.
Thank you!

Now this is a really really good point and I hadn't even considered. You're right, minus all the bargaining chips, if you do that.
THANKS!

I recently bought a 05Reg D3 HSE, 117K miles, from a dealer, for £8990.
Things to consider (in addition to what was said before):
I strongly recommend automatic gearbox. Manual is simply a lot of hassle with this large and heavy car (unless you specifically want/need manual)
The price difference between XS and HSE at that age and mileage is minimal (10-15%). With an HSE you get sunroof, satnav, automatic gear, larger alloys, Leather, and 7 seats all as standard. Check when the cam belt was changed and if it has not, request it. We negotiated a discount and the garage offered to replace the cam belt (plus water pump), sharing the cost between us and them.
Pay £400 for a warranty extension for one year. You will get a silver warranty extension only for cars with less than 120,000 miles. The warranty extension covers all major breakdowns (engine, gearbox, etc.) and AA callouts for breakdown emergency. Over 120,000 miles there is only bronze which covers less (as far as I know).
Insist on a service book. If there is no service book, there was no regular service. Ask for all receipts of repairs, and servieces
Test if the manual unlocking (passenger door only) works. Essential when the remote does not work.
Check the condition of both key fobs. At that age, they may need repair of the case.[/list]
