Billowing Exhaust Smoke after ticking over for 5 minutes |
|
Can anyone please help? After the car has been ticking over for a period, bluey white Smoke can be seen from the exhaust and when you rev the engine or pull away smoke billows from the back! There is also an acrid smell about the exhaust, and any time the engine is running. Other that the car runs perfectly and doesn't appear to smoke at any other time I'm taking it to an independent to be checked over early next week and over the phone they think it's the injectors and say I am looking at a Two and a half thousand pound bill to replace!!
The car is in very good condition and well maintained in particular with the help from the forum, but it is 12 years old and I cannot warrant spending that sort of money on it any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
I have a video of the car doing this but can't seem to load it on to this message
If it is injectors it would be a fuel issue and I would have thought the smoke would be black if anything I wondered if it was oil leaking in from the turbo although the car ha a new turbo about 40,000 miles ago, the car has done 160,000 miles bye the away All the Best

Hi,
the same problem I had with mine. White smoke after a few minutes to idle and after circulating a few kilometers all well without smoke. No other alarming symptom, only some power-up delay on the first cold start and acrid smell about the exhaust too....
Solution dismantle the 6 injectors and check them on a test bench, after finding out that 2 of them were wrong and 4 were fine, change these two and everything has returned to be normal.
good luck!! lost in translation!

Hello,
no, that is not within my reach but also not within reach of the dealership. I went directly to a specialist workshop in diesel injection that has all the necessary knowledge and the necessary machinery. lost in translation!

Thanks for the suggestion however I think it's a little too severe for that, I have previously tried injector cleaner but this has not made any difference and with 160,000 miles on the clock I think it's time for the spanners
I have today contacted a local and well recommended injector specialist and I'm taking the vehicle to them on Tuesday so I'll let you know about their findings All the Best

It definitely sounds like injectors as mine did the same at about that mileage.
I changed two faulty injectors and all was back to normal.
Have you checked the injector values and read the fault codes?
It should give you a clue as to what's going on.
I'm not sure how close you are to me but I'm more than happy to help by reading codes. D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.
D3 2005 HSE, Bonatti Grey, now sold but still comes back for servicing.
Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!

Hi all, I have a situation with my car that after extended idling white smoke is produced from the exhaust and billows out when pulling away for a short time only there is also quite an acrid smell about the exhaust any time!
My question is after being quoted between £1500 to £2500 to have the injectors replaced, what damage can be caused by continuing to run the car like this and what advantages will I receive from paying out the big bucks and having the works carried out?
Any comments and thoughts would be gratefully received All the Best

i got the same after replacing my fuel filter with an aftermarket one. A "Diesel Doctor" guy came to check and said the injectors were probably knackered. i went and got a proper LR filter and issue went straight away.
