Winter Tyres 255/55/r18 on Disco 3

I have a set of standard 18" LR alloys and have 255/60/R18 112 V tyres fitted. They are Pirelli Scorpion Zeros. I have been looking at winter tyres and some are coming up at 255/55/R18. Can 255/55 be fitted on the Discovery 3, 55 plate?

Also are the Scorpion Zeros any good in the winter? They are marked M+S but not showing the snow flakes so summer, or all year according to LR dealers. So ok in light snow but I have memories of spinning 270 at a country lane T junction in a Jeep in 4 wheel drive after braking lightly on a non snowy day. Must have been grease or ice, and not something I want to repeat trying to stop a 2.5 ton Discovery.

255/55/18 is RRS size and isn't load rated for D3 unfortunately.

Plenty of winter tyres in the correct size available. You make a valid point on braking ability, which is why I choose to run winter tyres on mine.

My D3 was loaded with 255/55 R18 studded winter tyre with load rate 109, when I bought it. I didn't put those under the car now, instead bought proper sized and rated 255/60 R18 Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtremes without studs. I read a lot about experience of those tyre and decided to give a go. So far I'm very happy with these under my D3. However no snow yet here in North. Probably on Friday I get opportunity to test on ice and snow...

I'm using Nokian WR SUV 3's, in the correct size and rating (255-60-18, 112) at the moment.

Very pleased with them so far.

Just wondering if you ever fitted those tyres on your D3. I've just bought one , it needs new winter tyres and someone's got a set, barely used going for a song...
