D3: Engine stop @ 100 mph

Dear all,

not very active on the forum (I'm french) and hope that my english is good enough.
Not found any info about my problem so here it is:

My vehicle:
D3, 2006, autogearbox, EGR removed, remap, 140 000 miles
Maintenance, timing belt .... performed according LR requirements, by an official LR dealer in France.
New battery (6 month old. New air compressor (1 month old)

My issue:
Engine stop on freeway in france @ 100 mph
1st default : air suspension default (It must lower when running high speed if remember well)
2nd default: brakes error (I think, was lloking @ the road) - Safe mode
3rd default: System default
engine stop: no more any driving assistance working at all

Need to stop in emergency on the side of the road, and just reinit the car.....

Any ideas ?
Many thanks in advance,
regards,
Smi

How long is it since the timing belt was changed?
And will the engine turn over with the starter motor?

(...and why were you doing 100mph on the autoroute...? Wink )
New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Hi,
- Timing belt performed after the 7 years, checked by dealer and seems OK.
- Yes, run smoothly as nothing ever happened before
- have not tried it again on the freeway @ this speed (that is not exceptional for this D3)

Just frightened to drive it again now.

For the rest, eehhhhh, just running back home quickly to see my wife Very Happy

Given the speed my first thought is fuel pump or fuel delivery problem.

Regarding the speed, many years ago I had to phone LRCS via satphone regarding an intermittent problem with a D3 and gave the parameters at the last failure. When they called back they told me 95mph flat-out when off-road was reckless. When I asked again about the fault they hadn't done anything yet they just called to comment about the speed.

Thumbs Up

That is what seat covers are for!! Shocked Shocked

Had similar in wife's old D3 except 60mph. Car just shut down and had to get onto the hard shoulder with no power & naff all steering. Didn't need brakes as was going up a hill. Car then refused to start. Needless to say when recovery got there she started perfectly, I was sure I could hear her laughing at me.

Yes, vehicle seems to work properly (Have driven around 80 miles) but have not been tested @ 100 mph again. The weather is very bad in France.

My local L dealer is complaining about EGR removal and remap and don't want to diagnose.

.... and the answer is yes, right fuel Smile

Other ideas ?

Thanks for your support all Smile

Start with the cheap obvious thing, and replace the fuel filter with a new genuine part. Check for intercooler or pipe leaks on the pressure side of turbo.

And use genuine fuel filter. Ratstones once fitted an "equivalent quality" fuel filter to my D3 that caused it to shut down under heavy throttle use, though it went in to limp mode and let me get to the side a bit more easily. Needless to say I haven't been back. Rolling Eyes
