Scraping new vehicles. Why???
Earlier today I found myself in a long queue of trucks trying to tip scrap metal at EMR in Liverpool docks.
As I waiting I noticed three or four car transporter trucks passing us by. All had brand new Jaguars with one or two Discovery 4s on them. All had their factory stickers con the windows so all brand new.
Upon tipping my load of scrap I was on the weighbridge and spotted these transporters in a different part of the yard.
To my complete horror, they were scrapping the cars!
They were been taken off the trucks. A guy fiddled with something under the bonnet, battery I was thinking, then the grab machine bashed in the side panels and drove down the roof. The car was then picked up and stacked along with the others. I could of cried. Why do this to brand new cars?
The place was that busy I had no time for photos or video but I seen a lovely black D4 trashed as I drove off.
Any ideas as to why this would be done???

None type approval conforming vehicles or too many faults to repair.

Quite common for car manufacturers to scrap development cars. I know Lotus used to shred the development cars, they looked ok, but were not quite the same as production cars.Richard

I have been told that there is a very expensive scrap yard at Gaydon,
and that wheels were removed with very little test mileage on them then drilled straight through the tyre and wheel

30 years ago, a lot of LR vehicles went to Peter Hobson near Louth to be broken for parts. I don't imagine that is still the case...New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.

Seen that ...everything involved in testing \ development has to be destroyed
Whole motors though are unusual unless involved in crash testing \ mules ...if fully furnished there's the possibility they were involved in total flood loss ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

They are scrapped because they get tax relief on their expenditure, as part of research and development. So they can't sell any of it.
