D3 EPB amber light illuminated

Hi All,
I know this question has probably been asked a million times...but, having taken our D3 to two garages we are left scratching our heads and unable to get the vehicle through its MOT.

Issue- Amber EPB Big Cry

Handbrake goes on and off fine (no noise. grinding or stuttering)
Randomly came on after being sat for 2 weeks
Drives fine

New handbrake module 3 years ago and only used on high days and holidays as we have a flat drive and i was warned by not to use it.
EGR valves have been blanked
New battery
New alternator
Timing belts changed
Pads changed last year and has only done 5k miles in the year.

Garage has checked for faulty wiring, brake fluid levels and found to be okay.

Other than this bleeding light, it passed the MOT with no advisories.
Short from taking it to LR dealer (which is something, we obviously wish to avoid)

Shortly after the EGRs were blanked we ended up going back to the garage for a software patch, after this patch was done the rear parking sensors decided to "die"..get in, put the key in and BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP"...

any suggestions, other than scrapping the damn thing, would be extremely helpful. Laughing

Vehicle has done approx 81k
Auto

Welcome. Thumbs Up

One thing I notice is omitted from your list is the switch itself?

For future reference, it is advisable to make good use of the park brake, to avoid it seizing up. With regular use and adjustment, jamming can be averted. Thumbs Up

The annoying part is that the epb works fine, comes on and off with no issues, its the damned amber warning light.
The module was replaced by the dealer but hubby informs me the switch hasnt been done....but did do the brake pedal switch..

The module needs to be used, not using it will cause issues. The EPB is designed to hold the vehicle stationary, the parking pawl in the gearbox has no where near the strength of the EPB shoes to stop the vehicle from moving. You were misinformed.

As has been stated earlier, try a different switch If it's not that then I would start looking at all the wiring and plugs for signs of corrosion or damage.
 De-Tango
V8 Brakes
EGRs blanked
Running boards
3 flash indicators and clock on dash
Blingy grille...

Thanks guys, really appreciate the heads up on the EPB.. i did mention this to hubby who was insistant it was okay to only use park on the auto. Rolling Eyes
i shall pass this information to him Laughing

I was always told to use the park brake...he argued. Rolling with laughter

so, once this issue gets fixed i will be applying the park brake from now on...just need to get this issue resolved and get it through its MOT.

I have asked the garage to replace the switch, and will see where we go from there. Again, thankyou

Do your reverse lights work?

By putting C1A48 in the sites search facility, I discovered a few people have had this issue. It looks like you have a wiring problem with the rear chassis loom. It will probably be something as simple as a corroded plug somewhere. The problem is finding it!

All the lights work, checked the bulbs, brake and reverse and indicator lamps, all working A-ok

This is what has completely and utterly thrown us.
as previously stated ive asked the garage to order a EPB switch and fit it. They state they have checked wiring...but im guessing its like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Once the switch is fitted, it might be as well then (if the problem isnt rectified) to order and fit a new wiring harness...(all i can see is £££s flashing now)

I think i may have found something while rooting about on other forums......

"Googled the C1A48 code and found a Landrover Service Bulletin, which basically said the fault was either- the Parking Brake Switch, the Instrument Cluster or the wiring in between.
Traced the wiring back to the n/s/r wheel arch where the wiring loom goes over the chassis and found a wire had rubbed through and must have been earthing out. Cut the wire out and soldered in a new piece, erased the fault and it's all sorted."

i wait with baited breath. Put the remortgage on hold for the time being as we may not need it to pay for the car just yet Laughing

Okay, so after three months (little less, as we have had Christmas an all)
The vehicle has been low loaded by CSMA and taken to a specialist garage for repair and MOT.

So, even tho in the terms and conditions from CSMA the vehicle was supposed to have a valid MOT, they arranged for a garage with an O licence to collect and waivered the additional charges for me.

Will keep updating as we find out information.

after a mere 4 hours the specialist found the fault....
You guessed it, the green wire had snapped exactly where you guys had said (and i had advised the garage)
On contacting the garage prior to going to the specialist, they (previous garage) still insisted it was a software issue and had driven the vehicle to ANOTHER garage (some 50 odd mile round trip, that i was not informed about at the time).
Now, at LEAST 4 times i told them it was this wire and to check it, they assured me they had, and refused to accept it was anything other than software...
I contacted them and told them what the issue was and how it was fixed to be told and i quote "glad we didnt bother looking, would have been looking for a needle in a haystack,"...........er...you told me you did!?

Lesson learned....

Now just the parking sensors to sort and it will be A-ok
