Glow plugs are a key part of your engine
That was my personal conclusion which is why I replaced my glowplugs and did not purchase a remote FBH.
I thought it would take a FBH a long time to get the engine anywhere near warm enough, when compared to a GP fitted exactly where you wanted the heat.
However if I lived where it got to -18°C I would want a remote FBH first, and worry about the GP's later.

Conclusion is here:
The Wild Rover wrote:As promised here is the outcome of the story. Not handy enough to fix the problem myself so I found a good indy (hard enough here in Germany) Diagnosed three broken plugs. They went at it carefully. Replaced all 6 plugs, snapped none! Hooray!! Charged me 550 euro and the Disco started first up and ran sweet as a nut this morning at -13. Result! Cheers again for advice.

Why?
You'd rather have warm air at the vents than a car that starts properly?

Well done Wild Rover and thanks for letting us all know the outcome. Accurate diagnosis is always the key to these sort of problems, there are far to many people guessing what is wrong instead of applying basic knowledge and common sense and usually at your expense.

I am also have a few starting problems at the moment, i.e. the engine turns over about 5 times before it catches (it used to start straight away), no smoke, drives smoothly, also fairly new battery and fuel filter.
It has done around 140k miles and rarely falls below 6 degrees here.
Any ideas whats causing it? Club Narpy Torch
