Disco 4 rear cambelt change necessary? |
|
Hi all,
It's the 7 year old service for my Disco 4 (done 96k) which according to LR schedules mean that the front and rear cam belts need to be changed. Having phoned a couple of local indys I found one hadn't done a rear one yet so didn't want the job and the other said they don't normally change the rear one as no damage is done if it goes so, they only tend to do the front one. They quoted 550 for this and 390 for a major service. I've tried to get a quote from my local LR dealer but they failed to get back to me. So my question is, is it necessary to do the rear cambelt too? Do they ever fail? The guy from the indy said it would probably add another 500 to the bill so I'd rather not have it done if it's not totally necessary. Anyone got any idea what a main dealer might charge for the service including the cambelt changes?

The D4 is different than the D3, the rear belt is timed on the D4 and has to be aligned on some marks, but even if it does snap the car will just stop the same as the D3.
My advice is to get it done, its a little more tricky than the D3 but not that bad...

I have seen the rear belts break up, and start flapping, tearing apart the plastic belt covers, and then tearing through wiring looms...
They NEED done to prevent any further expensive damage... My D3 Build Thread

Thanks for your advice. I think I'll get the rear one done too.

My mate had his D4 serviced and both belts changed at Broadfields near Dunmow. He was happy with their service although i'm not sure how much it cost.
